The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

He has a very vague resemblence to the general photo of the suspected Zodiac.

He also has a terrible personality and everyone hates him. And a lot of the way he acts is pretty much in line with the behavior and attitudes of serial killers.

It's a thing because Ted Cruz is basically fits the profile of a serial killer. Zodiac is the one everyone remembers.

Thus.

Ted Cruz, hunter of the most dangerous game.

Who time travels.

To be the Zodiac.

The Cruz being the Zodiac Killer is about as true as Obama being a Kenyan Muslim and Sanders being a racist. That is to say, not very.

That's beside the point. When someone is unpopular enough, people will accuse them of stuff that they couldn't possibly have done just to underscore their contempt for them, while never ever actually believing the accusations themselves. It's called "insult".

Anyhoo, in election result terms seems like Indiana is going for Trump and possibly Hillary.

Indiana should be an odd one for team blue, it's composition is a lot like Michigan, just that the countryside is more prominent to consistently overwhelm the city in state and usually in national races.

[up][up] His win isn't suprising, but the percentage is.

538 said he was mostly likely gonna get 43% of the vote, and he's currently getting 53%. [1]

Kasich appears to be seriously under-performing. I wonder if his pact with Cruz is to blame.

Kasich hasn't even had a ghost of a chance for winning for weeks so under performing here is kind of misleading.

He is currently getting 8%.

Why would anybody vote for Kasich? It doesn't matter what his positions are. It's physically impossible for him to win the nomination at this point. A vote for Kasich is a vote in the garbage.

They have their right to voice their opinion. If they like Kasich, they want their voice heard, no matter how small it is.

[up]x3 A protest vote if you're a registered Republican? That's what my mom did, as he was the only one she came close to liking. We live in Ohio, so that actually accomplished something here.

Mind you, I don't think she's voted Republican in the general since Bush, and I don't think that will be changing this time around. I've told her that she should probably switch to Democrat, but there's not much point in doing it now.

Trump still polls terribly among the general electorate, no need to start screaming just yet (unless you happen to be a remember of the RNC or a GOP politician up for re-election in a swing area, then you may scream at will).

Sanders is about 4% ahead of Clinton with 43% of the vote in.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.

CNN is reporting that Ted Cruz will drop out of the Presidential race following his shattering loss in Indiana. Holy cow, folks. That means Trump is in, no contested convention or anything. It's not like Kasich will steal his delegates... or at least, that would be the last hope of the Stop Trump crowd.

I always kind of suspected that would happen. My feeling was that while some Republicans were/are sincere, the "Never Trump" idea always seemed more like a pose to look good than a successful strategy.
