Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company.I honestly feel bad for Cruz. He's fringe, but he is consistently fringe. He should have been the Tea Party darling this primary, but they've (mostly) abandoned him in favor of a opportunistic snake-oil salesman.
Now he is the adulterous, Canadian RINO whose parents helped kill Kennedy.

Awesome, Vermont.
As for Cruz, I feel sorry for him to the extent that I sympathize with someone who was relentlessly bullied as a kid for being "weird". But that's as far as I go; he sublimated that rejection into becoming the biggest asshole in the entire nation

I think Cruz's unfavorability is purely due to the fact that Republican voters do not want a brokered convention, since that would mean some Establishment Republican getting the nomination rather than Trump or Cruz. At this point, the only way a brokered convention will be avoided is if Donald Trump gets an absolute majority in delegates. Republican voters still like Cruz, but they understand that he has lost and thus they are pushing all their support onto Donald Trump who, in their eyes, has won.
Wizard Needs Food Badly@ DB: Oh, it's just Drumpf being Drumpf. Still, not cool for him to try and invoke JFK like that.

Actually, they don't really like Cruz. Nobody does. He's just the "not-Trump" who has more than a snowball's chance in Hell of winning. He is uniformly reviled by every major player in the GOP — John Boehner recently compared him to Lucifer, which prompted an outcry from Satanists that the comparison was unfair... to Lucifer.

I said Republican Voters like Ted Cruz, not the Republican Party. If the Republican Party had their way, it would be Jeb Bush facing off against Marco Rubio instead of Donald Trump facing off against Ted Cruz.

I think Politifact called Trump out on his bullshit regarding the Iraq War quite a while back. They probably have clearer sources, if you can dig up the appropriate article.
