Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The issue at hand is that Hillary enjoys strong majority support from minority voters like blacks and Hispanics. This, in turn makes the closet-racist white left mistrust her. They dress it up as, "We know what's really best for you, so let Papa do his thing."

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
X3 She has majority support amaonegst blacks, but I don't belive she has that with any other racial group, be that Hispanics, Asian Americans, native Americans or Jews.
Now as blacks make up the majority of the minority population when it comes to numbers that's not a big difference, but when it comes to narrative, there's a big difference between Clinton winning minorities and Clinton winning blacks.

I'll take a source on "a lot", I'm pretty sure it's just a very vocal minority.
Dpeends on the racists, passive anti-blacks are going for Sanders, anti-Semites are going for Clinton.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranIt is possible for other issues to trump (no pun intended) racism/sexism. Voters occupy a wide spectrum, although on the Trump side, a lot of it is Internalized Categorism and much of the rest is, "I'm a prosperous, law-abiding X, and I can't stand those others of my ethnicity that are giving us a bad name."
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"It is still not "a lot".
This problem ("base rate fallacy") is not an issue just with how many Hispanics support Trump, though. Trump's impressive victory in New York looks a lot less impressive if you consider that Bernie won more votes than Trump and second-place Kasich together, and Hillary won more votes than all GOP candidates. In fact, Democrats in New York's primary outnumbered Republicans more than 2/1.

X6 Oh sure, but they're such a thing number that they're not worth thinking about. It's like space beastiality, theoretically possible, but not relay worth worrying about.
X3 They may be being optimist to try and get momentum.
Trump/Trump's horse.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranHad to chuckle at this news on NPR on the drive home - Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) leads Clinton supporters in singing "She Works Hard For the Money" by Donna Summer
. Edited due to
, since I probably just heard the "Donna" portion on the radio and forgot the rather critical other half.
The reason I chuckled wasn't the absurdity of the thought, but the Ambiguous Syntax of the title that could easily reflect Clinton's or Sanders' supporters' thoughts on her. Either "She works hard" for Clinton's camp, or "She works hard for the money(ed interests)" for Sanders' camp. It really didn't do her any favors when he quoted the opening lyrics - “She works hard for the money, so hard for the money. She works for the money, so we’d better treat her right,” - both in regards to the "coronation of Hillary" narrative that existed at the start of the campaign and the current "She's bought and paid for by the billionaires!" narrative Bernie is pushing.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Although that would probably happen anyway.
I know with the current Republican party in office, shit won't get done, but this is a primary ballot. Who's most likely best on the Democrat side and/or most unelectable on the Republican side? Might as well vote strategically.
Define 'best' .
As for the Republicans, I'd vote Cruz. Especially since it increases the chance of a contested convention.

Didn't Jon Stewart already point out that if the Jews really were to stage a conspiracy, they'd be too busy arguing to get anything done?
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
