There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

Trump now says the transgender bathroom thing should be up to the states.
I honestly don't know how anybody can be behind this guy at this point; he has no consistent stance on any issue except for "BUILD A WALL".
Also, I'm sorry, but "leave it up to the states" is dog whistle for "we're gonna let discrimination continue". Because left to their own devices, the states don't always do the right thing.

Speaking of the transgender bathroom thing, Target has weighed in on the issue by welcoming transgender employees and customers to use the bathroom that corresponds to their gender identity, and naturally, this sparked a call for boycott from the American Family Association.

Wizard Needs Food BadlyI don't think Trump's statement is a dog whistle for that. Rather it seems like a way of saying "I don't care; stop asking me about this" and "I don't endorse these laws" and "I am OK with you doing this" all at once.

Two things crossed my mind as I read this. The first is wondering if Republicans actually still believe in small government as they profess to. The second was a "Wait, what?" in reaction to the final paragraph.
"If we take care of morality,” bill supporter David Brumbaugh, a Republican, said during deliberations, "God will take care of the economy."

It's not the first time a Republican in our government has openly confessed to considering the Bible first and the Constitution second. Probably won't be the last. Separation of Church and State only exists if it's enforced and there are a lot of people in Congress right now who have no intention of doing so.
Personally, if he's meant to take care of our economy, I want to know which stocks God's backing. Mainly so I can jump on those bandwagons. I keep hearing about how omniscient the guy is so I'm sure he makes sound financial investments.

I wouldn't, I remember something I learned from the late sage George Carlin. God may be all knowing, all loving and all wise, but He can not be trusted to handle money. Why do you think churches are always asking for donations or holding fund raisers

Presumably because they have no other means of raising revenue but often have significant expenses caring for their heritable property and distributing alms to the poor in accordance with Christian tradition.
Schild und Schwert der ParteiIt's not hard to understand if you recognize that Trump has no policy positions. He has thoughts and ideas that may change from time to time, but he has never been forced to sit down and hammer out a detailed platform that he will rigorously adhere to throughout a political campaign.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"He even put his tiny-fingered touch on the "Build a Wall" idea, too. Note how it's gotten more elaborate and comical over time?

tldr (tldw?), Clinton keeps everything the same except for adding a new tax bracket at $5 million and up. Sanders 1) raises all income tax brackets by 2.2%, and creates several new tax brackets on the high end. 2) Adds another 6.2% payroll tax for health care, which applies to income below ~$118k (like social security taxes) and income above $250k/year (but not income between $118k and $250k, for some reason). 3) Sets the capital gains tax rate to the same as income tax rate at the same level.

Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.
Oof, that last one would be a really hard sell, but would also accomplish the most in regards to "leveling the playing field" and closing the income gap.
Edit: Finally got a chance to watch the vid, and it's the Social Security tax that skips a portion of a bracket, not Payroll, and that's to make it so that Social Security is adequately funded without harming those that would both be better off without the system and still getting the help from those that can easily afford to put more in.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"How is that Rubio and Hillary are repeatedly mocked for there flip-flopping, but this guy is heralded as a straight-talker?

Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company.By removing the trade deficit through renegotiation of trade deals (dubious) which will remove the federal deficit (dubiouser, even though there is a "double deficit" theory about this) so it seems to me.

Obama has also personally waded into the UK EU Referendum Debate
:- Obama — and the US Government — wants a (united) Britain to stay within the EU, as part of their desire for a United Europe.
