Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Not in 1960, 1968, 1972, 1976, 1980, 1984, 1988, 2000, or 2004. They did in 1964, 1992, 1996, 2008, and 2012. When they win, they usually win decisively, though.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."@Silasw: You sure about that? There's plenty of cases in congress where Sanders refused to vote for a bill he didn't believe in and was literally the only person in congress to vote against it; he's big on making a point like that, and frankly, I don't think the democrats need his help to win in November.
YGS criticizes spelling as well.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"@Rational: Why would he though, ideologically there's a huge gap between the democratic party bosses and Sanders, and now that his attempted takeover of the party appeared to have failed, there's no real reason for him not to switch back to independent. God knows he's not going to get a second chance at the presidency. I would certainly hope he helps campaign for some congressional candidates, but Clinton doesn't need his help, nor do I honestly think she deserves it.

You're exagersting, the gap is far from huge. The man has sat with the Democrats since forever, he may not be one but he's still gonna stump for them. He's a founding member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, the largest internal group of Democrat congress critters. Sure he's not gonna be stumping for Blue Dogs, but he'll be out fighting for and chanlling money to the other members of the CPC, which will allow the DNC to shift funding to other races.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI'd say it's about as big of a gap as exists between between (and I'm talking about the party establishments) the democrats and the Republicans. Which, when it comes to policymaking in the past twenty years or so admittedly hasn't been particularly wide on the majority of issues, social liberties being the big exception.
Yeah there's a gap, but that doesn't mean that Sanders won't campaign for folks, he'll certainly campaign for his allies in the CPC, Clinton is an unknown, he'll enforce but may not campaign, there may be to much bad blood come the end.
Sanders is only as far from the DNC as some Democrats are, there's no reason to think that he won't fight alongside thouse folks like he has done for years.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranYou'd better believe there will be candidates lining up to get a share of Sanders' remaining campaign funds, at the very least.

Schild und Schwert der ParteiMore specifically, "Stop making Hillary look bad, and don't use us to do it. And get behind the rest of the party." But one statement jumped out to me.

Actually, if memory serves usually Democrats win the majority of states in the presidential election.
