Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Leviticus 19:34If you find yourself agreeing with the person you don't like, would you reevaluate your or their opinion?
Non Indicative UsernameBernie: 99%
Hilary: 95%
Ted Cruz: 31%
Donald Trump: 17%
Honestly, this isn't all that surprising. My Acting class in college doubled as a Radical Liberal class in disguise, and my teacher's far leftist rants have essentially been drilled into my skull. So... FEEL THE BERN!
took the isidewith test, the result is:
Bernie Sanders 95%
Jill Stein 93%
Hillary Clinton 91%
John Mc Afee 72%
Gary Johnson 70%
Donald Drumpf 57 % (i have no idea what questions brought him over 50%)
Ted Cruz 30%
Bumbleby is best ship. busy spending time on r/RWBY and r/anime. Unapologetic SocialistYou can click each candidate to find out what specifically you agreed on.
For me and Cruz, the big ones were NASA funding, GMO labeling (though it didn't take into account the nuance of my answer) and Congressional term limits.

- 77% Hillary
- 72% Jill Stein (who...?)
- 69%-60% bunch of Libertarians (who...?)
- 54% Kasich
- 52% Trump (somehow... I can't believe I agree with this guy on anything)
- 46% random Libertarian
- 41% Cruz

Going by the source used by the quiz
, the reason Ted Cruz shows up under science is because he wants NASA to stop wasting time and money on all that "Earth-science" and climate nonsense, and just get back into space.

It's true. Republicans are all for funding NASA. Usually their real reasons are two fold. One, unlike the Democrats, they are much more nationalistic and much more likely to believe in concepts like national honor and the pursuit of glory. They are very much into flags and footprints exploration. Secondly, much of the space industry is in Republican districts, so a lot of their support is based on pork barrel spending. This proves problematic when NASA is forced to use outdated "legacy" systems so the same companies can make the money to pay the same workers so those same workers can keep voting for the same Republican Congressmen they did decades ago. The exception is Earth Science, which they hate because it constantly turns up evidence for Climate change, evidence that is inconvenient to the business interests and religious nutters that back many Republican Congressmen.
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.86% Austin Peterson (who?)
85% Gary Johnson (who?)
82% John McAfee (think I might've heard of him, once...)
81% Marc Allen Feldman (who?)
72% Ted Cruz (Ack! No...)
71% Donald Trump (Oh, HELL NO!)
70% Bernie Sanders (*shrug*)
64% Hillary Clinton (as if...)
So, I guess this test demonstrates two things: One, I don't fully agree with ANY of the candidates, and Two, I seem to be a closet Libertarian.
This Space Intentionally Left Blank.
I have no idea who Mc Afee is but I have a 78% rating of agreement with him, and an 80% with Gary Johnston who I also do not know.

Gary Johnson
ran in the 2012 election as a libertarian. I actually voted for him even though I knew he didn't have a chance.

I tried it with Show More Questions, Other Answers, and Learn More, but got info overload and decided to start over on Easy (No using Learn More, More Questions, or Other Answers, except on one question that I'mma have to debate on in class anyway note and on gay marriage note ). Figure I'll try the full thing again later.
Aaand got Bernie Sanders 95%.
94% Hillary (who's like 80% Bernie these days anyway), 95% Jill Who, 69% Gary Who, 67% The Guy Whose Name I Know as a Shitty Antivirus Software, 62% Austin Who, 62% Darryl Who, 58% Kasich, 57% Marc Who, 57% Satan (Cruz), aaand 46% Dump.
On the one hand, yay, on the other... This was on easy mode. :/ Definitely gonna have to try the full thing again later to confirm. I'm not even properly informed on half... okay, probably all... of these questions. Would be requesting further data for each of them, or at least most.

Wizard Needs Food BadlyI'm a Republican, and I think I can safely say that most Republicans like the space program. I mean, a lot of us probably read a lot of Starship Troopers as a kid. In seriousness, I did not, though I think a lot of Republicans identify with Steely-Eyed-Missile Men and space as a new frontier. And of course, there's the whole "national glory" thing that Jack O Lantern's talking about. In addition, space exploration drums up the economy and I also believe that it might act as a healthy unifying force for our nation and encourage optimism.
Leviticus 19:34Watching rocket-propelled penises pointing skyward sure encourages optimism.
