Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Not if you play Renegade.
But what is funny is The Illusive Man, which is who the video was ripping from, was an extreme racist. He had a big very much became a He Who Fights Monsters thing, became a political tool for his enemies, and a crap ton of other things people call out Trump for.
Comparing him to that actually makes sense.
Yeah, comparing Trump to the Illusive main is fair. In fact, Trump's quite possibly worse-at least in some regards.

Leviticus 19:34Yeah, Trump isn't even Affably Evil. If you were to have a guy like him run for president in a movie, it'd be called unrealistic.
Leviticus 19:34![]()
In this case, I think it's actually a case of Wrong Genre Savvy caused by Polite Villains, Rude Heroes and Cool People Rebel Against Authority. Since, in movies and such, evil political leaders are always Affably Evil and sophisticated, a person who doesn't act anything like that therefore can't be evil. From their perspective, he's the "rude hero" to the "polite villains" in Washington. Trump must be honest, after all, since he's so blunt and rude.
You can essentially think of Trump as being an Evil Counterpart to someone like Stephen Colbert. If we ignore Trump's actual morality and pretend for a moment he's good-it'd make for a pretty marketable comedy movie. A guy from out of nowhere tries to run for president to bring truthiness to our election! He doesn't play by the rules of politics and despite it all he manages to thwart those boring, lame politician-types! All the while, hilarity ensues!

Leviticus 19:34No matter what Trump would like us to believe, he is not The Distinguished Gentleman.

So this cup will probably not pass the US...

He's essentially Lex Luthor pretending to be the Distinguished Gentleman. He's doing an I Know You Know-Politicians stereotypically pretend to be "good guys", and Trump is pretending to be the real good guy fighting the bad guys pretending to be good guys.
Also, he's far worse than the establishment he wants to replace.

They are, but it's gotten to a point where such heroes are subversive now. Cap's movies usually lampshade this (while trying to reconstruct the idea), and Superman stories usually like to throw a darker spin on the idea.
To be fair, with Superman it takes a pretty skilled writer to not turn him into a Canon Sue.

I've seen people who say I should vote for him because he's "classy", and usually compare his "sharp looks" to Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. I've actually had a friend say I shouldn't vote for Hillary because she's "white trash." Mind you they are all to young to vote and love teasing me, so this could all be a joke, but I must say their seems to be a disturbing amount of pro Trump sentiment in Westchester.
which complete runins the idea of Superman, he is supposed to be the boy scout, the Incorruptible Pure Pureness, and ideal for people and the nation to hold itself to, these days what people seem to want is The Punisher, not even Judge Dredd

advancing the front into TV TropesWell, with Supes, I'd expect there to be massive amounts of GIFT going on. It's not that people can't be that nice, it's that I doubt superman would ever learn to be that nice-as a child, nobody could ever punish him for misbehaving and he'd learn right quick he can do whatever the hell he wants to without consequence. He wouldn't necessarily be evil, but it's likely someone like him would be along the lines of an antihero. In fact, this was his original portrayal.
With Cap it's more justifiable, as he was a good person before he was given power, and in any event isn't borderline invincible.
Leviticus 19:34Y'know, it wouldn't surprise me if Trump's campaign was deliberately modeled after Rodney Dangerfield's character from Caddyshack.

Someone made a mash-up of Trump and Mass Effect that was retweeted by Trump's Twitter. EA was not amused
.

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiot
