Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Seeing as the Primary stations were for both Democratic and Republican voters, pretty certain this impacted both parties to the same degree.
And for easier reference (as the related post was a page-bottomer)...
To a degree - depends on just how much Hanlon's Razor applies in this situation, but suffice to say, both parties are going to be critical of how badly that got bungled.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Don't know if I've seen this here before or not, so I thought I'd post it
. Ignoring some of the hypocrisy in it (and there's plenty) it really says a lot about how much Beck hates Trump that this is where he's taken it. It also explains a lot about Beck to know he came from an abusive home.
Sorry, but I still think El Diablo may even be worse than Trump. I also don't think that religion-mongering and governments shutdowns are particularly persuasive arguments.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanMassively unlikely, especially since you have to provide some kind of ID for them to check against their register. At least here, you're not just handed a ballot, you have to give them something with your name on it and preferably a picture that they can then check against a list of local people legally registered to vote. They also make you sign that so they know you've already shown up, supposedly in case someone else comes in with a false ID. Pretty simple ways to prevent their feared in person voter fraud. Illegals are also highly unlikely to be registered to a party for the purposes of primaries.
So basically anyone who mentions that to you is spreading ill informed lies and baseless fear.

Paul Ryan just did something classy:
"So I stopped thinking about it that way—and talking about it that way. But I didn’t come out and say all this to be politically correct. I was just wrong."
Respect.
Just because his motive may be Enlightened Self-Interest does not mean we shouldn't encourage Republicans like Paul Ryan to change their viewpoint to a more understanding view.
Wizard Needs Food BadlyPeople are complicated, and sometimes do the right thing for selfish reasons. Either way, in the currently atmosphere in the Republican party and general political climate it takes some courage to straight up say that you were wrong about something. Let's hope this is a shot for sanity and not a fluke.

Do you really think the corner of the state that gave us Joe Arpaio is going to just let Democrats vote?
"Yup. That tasted purple."
