Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Such exquisite sarcasm... I wonder how many will completely miss it.

No, I think it's obvious enough.
As for "thanks, Obama", I blame his administration for fucking up the Arab Spring. Only Tunisia got their democracy and freedom. Everyone else got fucked. Because he thoroughly half-assed his support to the democratic forces.
It might not actually be his fault, but I don't care. I'm feeling petulant tonight. And blaming Mossad is cliché. It's not the Arab peoples' fault that they wanted to live in democratic regimes where their voices were heard.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. You know, I was hugely skeptical of the whole "The media's blacking out Sanders!" narrative... then I saw this article from the NY Times pointing out how Sanders could still win the nomination
, particularly the picture of one of his rallies. They literally captured Sanders from the shoulder up and a single sign someone was holding up behind him, and nothing else - and yet that's what the editor picked for the article's picture?
Consider me now simply skeptical of the narrative, but believing that at least the person that decided on that picture is probably against Sanders as the Democratic nominee.
"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"The Obama Doctrine,
and the numerous articles responding to it, has given some good perspective on his foreign policy, but I'm still not entirely sure where I fall on the issue.
What if the press are against him? In the end they're powerful political actors, he has to either be able to overcome them, win them round or he's simply not up to the job.

I fucking miss Jon Stewart.

In fairness, that's not too much different than shots they've taken at other politicians, and they'd likely have gotten complaints of sexism if they'd used Hillary's face on the stripper. Also, he took a similar jab at Hillary for her decidedly... unfortunate hand-motions.
That said, I far prefer Samantha Bee's segment with PBS and "Conductor Bernie".
The right doesn't complain about Obama's foreign policy? Since when?

He's better than Bush Jr, I'll give him that.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. The last time we tried to put the CIA on a leash we gutted their human intel capability. And they do everything the Presidents have told them to do. It's just that those things aren't very pleasant.
Edit: Just playing Devil's advocate.
Romney says vote Cruz over Trump
Personally I prefer Mussolini to the Ayatollah. At least in Trumpland porn would be legal, as opposed to the Heavenly Kingdom of Cruzia and it's Christian Sharia law.

I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.Well, how about being a tad quicker to denounce Mubarak and Assad? Or canning or at least severely regulating the CIA's drone program? The world is fine with spies spying, it's what they're for. Crashing weddings, not so much.
How about not supporting a Shia minority party's oppression of the rest of Iraqis? How about not resupplying Israel when they ran out of murder delivery systems during their little ethnic cleansing operations?
I heartily congratulate him on Cuba and Iran, though. Good job. And a shout-out to my homie Pope Francis, bless his soul.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.If we're gonna talk forign policy then let's talk it, but not Israel related stuff, we have a thread for that.
There's other stuff, Libya could have been handled better by everyone involved, Syria had so much flip flopping Romney considered suing, there remains the standard issues of support for authoritarian regimes, and I know that Shinra has issues with the handling of Ukraine.
