Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Bah. Rubio is a dilettante at politics. He is a pretty face who is good at selling the party line to donors and raising lots of money thereby, but who never had any interest whatsoever in the actual governing part. Hence his abysmal voting record in the Senate.
I doubt that he ever actually wanted to be President, but if he had gotten the job, he'd probably have taken enough vacation time to make George W. Bush look like a workaholic.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Ted Cruz picked his top foreign policy adviser
(spoiler alert, it's anti-Muslim conspiracy theorist Frank Gaffney).
On a related note, from the satirical (i.e. fictional news, like The Onion) Borowitz Report, to reassure the American people, Obama plans to take the nuclear launch codes with him when he leaves office
.

Satirical maybe, but it would be absolutely hilarious.
Okay, I need some context on that Drumpf ad... why the everloving fuck was Hillary barking like a dog at a rally? Seriously, people gave Howard Dean a hard time over his scream, and then she's doing that 8 years later? Did the prospect of Drumpf winning the Republican race just drive her barking mad for a second, or what?
I'm fully aware that it was out-of-context, but I'm wondering whether it even makes sense in context.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"I'm actually a bit surprised that Rubio is apparently not seeking any office whatsoever. I had him pegged as a "whatever I have to say to stay in power" sort of politician.
Maybe he realized he can get more power with less accountability by going into business.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.Last Friday? Looks like Obama didn't have much faith in Bernie winning Super Tuesday 2: The Quickening.

Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company.Hostile, no; I'm sure Obama has great respect for Sanders. But I'm pretty sure he wants Clinton to succeed him, even if he can't come out and say it.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
I think it's more a "realist" approach, where he knows that funds and battles fought between Democratic nominees will detract from how much resources can be pulled together for the General election.
And with Rubio, I'm just waiting for Drumpf to brag about "winning so hard I made him quit politics entirely!"
"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"@Aszur- There's kind of a dispute between Sanders and people on the Obama campaign in terms of the degree in which Sanders supported him
. Basically, some or even a lot of people remember Sanders not supporting him in 2008 and calling for a primary challenger in 2012. Sanders himself has no recollection of this.
The article still indicates though that the two worked together and potentially like each other. I think it's more that Clinton's views are more in line with Obama's and after having her as his Secretary of State, it would be odd for Obama not to support her barring some deep personal conflict.

I've heard stories recently that Rubio would talk openly about how much he hated working in the Senate, so whether he won or lost, I think it was going to be a relief for him not to be there anymore.

At least Rubio didn't do an about-face and suddenly go, "Oh yeah, turns out Trump's a real swell guy! I want to be in Trump's posse now that he's defeated me!" I'm looking at you, Christie and Carson.
