Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

It looks like there's a chance the header might be Accidentally Accurate this year too.
Speaking of Trump rallies, I understand he canceled an appearance here in Cincinnati for this Sunday, in favor for one in Illinois.
A curious decision, to say the least - isn't Ohio a critical state for him? You'd think that he'd want to spend as much time here as possible, unless he's considers Cincinnati a sure thing one way or the other?
Oh God! Natural light!
Basically instead of just one protester for Trump to toss away there had to be thousands there who are angry with Trump, disrupting the event in the process. It was like an organized thing. No one was hurt but the event was canceled out of fear of the situation getting worse.
They appeared to be Bernie supporters, they were chanting "Bernie! Bernie! Bernie!" after the rally was canceled.
Just wait for the conventions.

Just read the CNN article, and went near apoplectic when I read this bit.
This coming from the man who, back in November, opined on whether a protester should have been roughed up
. His supporters picked up on the rather obvious subtext of that statement, and he hasn't done jack shit to denounce any of it.
And more recently, he brought a pair up on stage that had ripped a sign away from a protester
to publicly thank them and let them say a few words. And most recently, he's defended his supporters throwing punches because the protesters are obviously "bad dudes and have done bad things", and "These are people that punch, these are people that are violent people!"
And yet the facts are arrayed against him, especially considering the most recent (as of my typing this) reported incident where a protester, already being led out by security, got sucker-punched in the mouth by a supporter who later told Inside Edition that he'd happily do it again and that "Next time we might have to kill him
".

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Trump talks with really small words and simple sentences. Sometimes you get the impression he's talking to children... or morons.
Thought I might bring this up on the new shooting (ugh):

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.I'd be shocked if it hadn't happened already.
As for the Trump rally, I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that once Trump saw that his rally woudl be overshadowed by a counter protest he cancelled to rally and claimed that it was over "security concerns"., thus regaining control of the narrative.
It's just like when he quit the one Republican debate, instead of turning up and loosing he loudly didn't turn up and got control over the narrative.

I feel like this is only going to get worse with time.
