Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I feel like this endorsement is less "I like Trump" and more "Fuck Cruz." He never forgave him for Iowa.

Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company. At least Cruz's followers aren't violent and racist thugs.

And the cops tackled the protestor. And didn't immediately arrest that old bastard.
The perp had this to say, before he was charged. "Yes, he deserved it. The next time we see him, we might have to kill him. We don't know who he is. He might be with a terrorist organization," Mc Graw said in an interview conducted after the rally but before he was charged. He added that the protester was not acting "like an American" and said it was unclear if he was a part of ISIS. After the interview was reported, authorities added the communicating threats charge.
Its only a matter of time before Trump's rallies become lynch mobs.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.![]()

Well, I'm pretty sure that's what he said. He certainly made a big deal about returning education to the state and local governments.

Well, I was primarily referring to whether the candidates started throwing insults at each other.
That said, Cruz is definitely being an asshole tonight.

Oh God! Natural light! So I went searching, and I found this old Washington Post article from late 2015.
Cruz didn't list all five, though, instead naming the Commerce Department twice. And he his plan for how he'd achieve figure he cited — $500 billion in savings — is short on specifics.
"Five major agencies that I would eliminate: the IRS, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Energy, the Department of Commerce and HUD," Cruz said.
A document on Cruz's Web site lists five major agencies (the fifth is actually the Department of Education) along with 25 smaller programs that he'd abolish.

Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company. So, Kasich said that the European nations made a mistake rejecting Turkey? What was he referring to there?
Aaaaand Trump basically argued that we should change our laws to target the families of terrorists.

Oh God! Natural light!Okay, so Trump says that he's the most Pro-Israel person in the room, but he wants the Palestinians to think of him as a neutral figure.
When he just said that he was Pro-Israel on live television.
Yeah...
Oh God! Natural light!I think Cruz just compared himself to Reagan.
Also, Trump says when he calls Putin a "strong leader", he doesn't mean that he's a good leader. Which, since Trump is obviously selling himself as a strong leader, begs the question of how, when Trump sells himself as "strong", he's different from Putin being "strong".

Oh God! Natural light!Re: Trump Rally: I'm sad to say I share the state with people who hold that mindset, but at least the police are being more proactive in the investigation, which is thankfully the typical disposition of the force outside of the more remote rural areas (as far as I know).
Kasich is hoping to be the last remotely-establishment man standing after Rubio fully implodes and the party elites remember why they despise Cruz during the convention.

GM: AGOG S4 & F/WC RP; Co-GM: TABA, SOTR, UUA RP; Sub-GM: TTS RP. I have brought peace, freedom, justice, and security to my new Empire.I know a woman who works with my mother at her local autism support group is pro-Trump. Kinda ironic, considering Trump thinks vaccines cause autism.
Oh, and I think a distant cousin of mine is voting for him. She's ticked my dad off enough with her comments on immigration (my dad is Mexican, for context). And probably another one of my friends is for Trump, I'm not sure.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?

The Republican debate's been rather tame so far.
Has Cruz ever stated his desire to dismantle the Department of Education before?
Oh God! Natural light!
