Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Any time I tell someone I'm trans, they bring up Caitlyn Jenner. Anytime the topic of trans people comes up, people talk about Caitlyn Jenner. Before she came out, the go to person was Laverne Cox, who is a good representation of the trans community.
Its pretty damn frustrating seeing people only mention the one trans person trans people generally dislike, and using her as a reference for the entire community.

Who?
But I guess that would be frustrating. But from the sounds if it only seems like people are associating "being trans" with her, not projecting her personality onto you. Still annoying I guess. I'm not really in the position so maybe I shouldn't bring it up.
It's just something I've noticed around me in other areas.

Opinions are scary. Let's all chill out and hide under the blankets until they are all gone and over.
Or you know what, I can pretend that I actually give a fuck of who this Jenner person is. What makes her a dick?
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesA trans person supporting Ted Cruz is a little like a Jew supporting Hitler, a black person supporting David Duke, or a gay person supporting Kevin Swanson. (Look him up.)
Also, there was a murder charge against Caitlyn Jenner when she was still Bruce. Not sure of the details, and I don't care.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"She got charged for manslaughter, but then also she's spouted some stupid beliefs apparently. I do not remember all of them, but I do remember some people in the LGBT thread talking about one stupid thing she said when it was in the news.
Or like a black guy joining the KKK. Just look at the page image for Boomerang Bigot.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Donald Trump backed out of a FOX debate with Sanders, leading to the Sanders/Clinton townhall we had instead:
Fox News Forum May Signal Thaw Between Democrats and Network
The Trump campaign was initially very interested, according to Fox officials, and the Sanders campaign was on board. But before the debate could be announced, the Trump campaign pulled out, citing scheduling conflicts, so the network planned to welcome just Mr. Sanders in an hourlong town-hall-style event, hosted by Bret Baier as part of his “Special Report” program.
Late on Friday, the network received a surprise call. Mrs. Clinton would participate, ending her two-year absence from the network that her liberal base loves to criticize.
Likewise, Israel's Netanyahu backed out of meeting Obama:
White House 'surprised' to learn Netanyahu turned down meeting
An aide to Obama said that Netanyahu's office had requested a sit-down between the two leaders on March 17 or 18, and that the White House responded two weeks ago offering March 18 as a meeting date. That's just ahead of Obama's planned trip to Cuba.
"We were looking forward to hosting the bilateral meeting, and we were surprised to first learn via media reports that the Prime Minister, rather than accept our invitation, opted to cancel his visit," said National Security Council spokesman Ned Price. "Reports that we were not able to accommodate the Prime Minister's schedule are false."

Perhaps he was afraid that he'd be asked tough questions like "How exactly do you plan on making Mexico pay for that wall?".
He'd get called on shit and be unable to deflect. In the last Republican debate he responded to every serious question by insulting his opponent, that works when debating Republicans but won't fly if he's debating against a Democrat.
Trump only takes on debates he can win.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI think it is a stupid move from Drumpf. From the little I have seen of Clinton and Sanders in debate, she is the one more likely to burn her opponent. Sanders is very polite and frequently refused to use some easy snark bait. So if Drumpf hopes to be properly prepared for a debate against a Democrat, I see Sanders as the "easiest one".
Not to say that he would win it by any means. But the burn might be a few degrees hotter if his first experience is against HRC.
I don't think Trump would be any good in a one on one debate. His normal tactics (shouting down everyone else) wouldn't work because a smart opponent would just wait for him to finish, and then get on to their point. The other thing is that Sanders does know enough about the economy that Trump would probably have to address the problems with his own (rather nebulous) tax plan.

Yes, like when Drumpf supported her and said he really liked her back in '08. Unless he expects to use the Your Approval Fills Me with Shame gambit?

I mean, I get general embarrassment, in general, but the whole "this makes me embarrassed to be [insert group]" doesn't even make sense. And I doubt most people equate her politics to those of all trans people.
