Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The problem with Cruz is the opposite of Trump, embodying the excesses of conservatism rather than abandoning it: Small government to the point of nonexistence (except where it's convenient, ie. military), free market to the point of dystopia, and socially conservative to the point of theocracy.
And in a game of Would You Rather? I'd still pick that over Trump. Because if he respected states' rights as much as he says he does, at least there's a chance of decency carving out an existence somewhere in the country.

...One more round, then call it quits? "I would rather have a President Trump than a Cruz because it would let Matt and Trey give the office to Garrison?"

If Trump wins the election South Park goes off the air. Their is no way Trump will let a show that had his Canadian counterpart raped to death, and with will no doubt take the gloves off when it comes to criticizing him as President, stay on the air. He'll ether have them arrested for "threatening the life of the President" or something like that over the whole rape thing, sue them out of existence, or something much worse.
I'm a Sanders supporter, and if I hadn't missed a deadline to switch from Independent to Democrat I'd gladly vote for him in the NY primary, but these are facts.
- Fact: Kansas has 37 delegates at play, which will be split.
- Fact: Nebraska has 30 delegates at play, which will be split.
- Fact: Not counting super delegates, Clinton is about 200 delegates ahead right now.
- Fact: Upcoming major states that will vote withing the next week and a half alone include Florida, (246 delegates) Ohio, (160 delegates) Michigan, (147 delegates) Illinois, (186 delegates) and North Carolina. (121 delegates)
So it's not minimizing to state that Nebraska or Kansas are little fish. They just are. My eyes are on the days to come, especially the 15th, (when Florida, Illinois, Ohio, and North Carolina all vote) because to my mind that's a make or break day. A win or die day. And in every one of those states I listed, Bernie is down between 15-30% against Clinton. Which could be bad polling, (particularly in Ohio and Illinois, which have been criminally under polled considering the delegates they have to give) or could be a possible knockout punch for the campaign.
Hence why my eyes are on those dates, and not so much on Kansas, Louisiana, or Nebraska. Does that make sense?
(Hell, Nebraska and Kansas are such small fish that Louisiana has more delegates than both of them combined, and Clinton is going to take at least 70% of the vote in that state, maybe more, which outright negates winning Kansas and Nebraska and maybe leaves Bernie further behind than when he started today.)

| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |The mayor tried to get relief for the town, but Snyder, in appointing an emergency manager to the town, removed all effective power from the local governance. There was a segment on Maddow's show a few weeks ago about how the city council tried to pass some measures but it was effectively useless because of this removal of power. So yeah, the political alignment of the mayor kind of doesn't matter when they have no actual ability to do anything.
I tried it and got nine out of ten. Mostly because Mussolini's remarks are far better articulated and more eloquent and poetic than Trump's style of talking.
Now, if you want a real challenge, try the "Donald Trump or Donald Duck?" quiz.

He didn't beat Clinton, because she wins where it counts in the primary race. Louisiana contributes more delegates than Nebraska or Kansas, and Hillary blew Bernie out there whilst running him close in NE and KS. In Kansas, Bernie won 23 delegates to Hillary's 10. In Nebraska, he won 14 delegates to Hillary's 11. In Louisiana, though Hillary won 39 delegates against 12 for Bernie.
Add the totals together, and Bernie took 49 delegates from those three states, whilst Hillary took 60.
EDIT: ROMANIA YES!

Schild und Schwert der ParteiI got a 10/10 separating them from each other. They have a very different language. Trump uses very small words, boasts, barely any metaphors. Mussolini's always got his head in the jungle
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

@Blue Ninja
More Il Duce and the Ayatollah I think. Anybody else taken the "Trump or Mussolini" quiz? It is depressingly hard to tell whose quotes are whose.
