Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Bah and now I page bottomed as I added a direct reply to your point on Rubio. I agree that he's less crazy then Trump, but he's still not got a sane foreign policy. Driving Iran to nukes by making it think the US is going to install another dictatorship/shoot another plane of civilians out of the sky is not a good idea.

Trump's a pretty big fan of Putin. I also think he complimented the Kims at one point.
The general issue is with Iran, their government is currently split between Hardliners and Moderates/Pragmatists, and the Pragmatists *really* would like to avoid going to War with the US, hence the Nuclear Deal. And basically every Republican wants to torpedo that deal.
When more and more of Iranians would really like pull a Cuba and normalize with us. And there's signs that the current Supreme Leader might be replaced with someone more flexible than Ali Khamenei (and Khameneni has REALLY been bending in recent years as he's got prostrate cancer supposedly, and probably wants to exit life having made sure he's remembered fondly by the country.)
On a side note, the parody "Sith Apprentice" is probably a lot Harsher in Hindsight at this point.
Leviticus 19:34Primaries keep backing up as states try to gain power. If we just did primaries in one day with STV this would all be solved, but unless the parties decide to drop the delegate funzies, it's not going to happen.
I'm just going to sit in a corner and drink tea and pray that the people predicting that Cruz and Trump would both be pummeled to death by Clinton are right.
Bet you didn't see that comingMy theory: At the last minute, a guy in a giant robot will come to save the presidency.

Be Careful What You Wish For, we might just get President Armstrong.
He doesn't even need the robot, he can break Drumpf in two with his bare hands.

Unfortunately, you have to be alive in order to be president. North Korea is the only nation that really cares to represent ghosts in it's government.

Clinton won Massachusetts. Sanders won Colorado and Minnesota.
CURRENT DELEGATE COUNT
Trump - 285
Cruz - 161
Rubio - 81
Kasich - 25
Carson - 8

Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company.Sanders took Colorado, Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Vermont. Clinton took Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, and, crucially, Massachusetts.
Current delegate count:
Clinton: 1001
Sanders: 371.
However, when you strip out superdelegates, it becomes 544 against 349.
Bernie avoided disaster tonight - the entrance polls showed him losing Oklahoma, which would have been a catastrophe. However, Clinton managed to stop him in Massachusetts, which is one of the most demographically favourable states for him. However, he's still trailing. He needs to beat Clinton's popular vote to have any chance of her superdelegates switching sides and the undecided ones backing him.

While I understand the discouragement, should things turn out that way, I would rather accept the lesser same old "evil," over the reintroduction of a greater older evil.

Blergh indeed. Fuck the "lesser evil" argument of "we should vote Clinton, because she's better than Republicans". While it's true(barely) when it comes to voting over Republicans, Sanders is also better than Republicans and a lot more. "Clinton is better than Republicans, so let's vote for her over Sanders"... some steps are being missed here, deliberately.
Fuck the Republicans. Sanders vs Clinton is far, far more important, no matter how much the Clinton camp wants to deliberately put the voters into a lesser evil trap.

Exacto-mundo.
