Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Clinton's only being investigated because the Republicans were desperate to ruin her reputation well before the primary even started. The whole email thing was acknowledged and dismissed as a deliberate distraction by Sanders himself. And Sanders' problem currently seems to be that he's not bothering to campaign far enough in quite a few states this time around. (Clinton has connections that are both widespread and go back years, which is helping her in this case.)
So uh.. yeah, not just an example of overlooking someone.
And I heard some black college students say the same thing today. People of all races are allowed their (perhaps) stupid opinions. It's nothing to be surprised or really that stressed out about. Look hard enough and you'll find someone who believes anything.

This makes me glad New York City isn't the Capital of the US anymore (Though it pretty much still is the Capital of the US in everything but Politics nowadays), because with Trump representing New York, America would be the laughing stock of the First World (If it isn't already).

Yes, I know. Why do you think I said they lean blue? The point being, they're less hardcore Dem than the registered Dems are, so although it's a solidly blue state overall, there's more overlap between MA and its Southern brethren than there would appear to be at first glance.

Because if you're always voting either Dem or Rep that's not "leaning" that way; that's being a member of the party in all but name. Whether you're officially registered for the party or not would likely become irrelevant to most people and for good reasons.
Saying they lean one way or the other implies there's a decent chance they'd go for the other party sometimes and that's apparently not the case for most independents.

It strikes me as a little premature to call Texas with less than 200 out of nearly 8000 precincts reporting, but that's exit polling for ya. Or is the population in TX really that concentrated?

It's also predictability, there's a reason come November you'll see entire states called one way or the other based on zero votes, nobody needs to stay up to see in California goes blue.

Of course there isn't. The median Northern voter and the median Southern voter are reasonably far apart, of course, but there's a lot of overlap. Not to mention that the rural/urban divide and dynamic exists basically everywhere in the country.
