Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Like or dislike Hillary, do you think her presidency would be that much different from Obama's? Plenty of things I dislike about Obama's policies but the world has not ended on his account and I doubt a Hillary presidency would be much different.
...we may need the trenchcoats and katanas for other reasons but that's not a foregone conclusion.

World ending? Nah. I'm not one of those foam-mouthed fearmongers. Damage getting done by a presidency is subtler and more gradual than that. I've already said everything I expect from her presidency - "fuck you, go die" on single-payer, more inept warhawkery, TPP, and siding with Wall Street(fuck the speeches, nobody, even Wall Street, is stupid enough to donate to someone who's actually against them to begin with, that's what matters. They donate to her, they love her, that should be worrying enough) being among the highlights.
The thing is no, I don't want another Obama. He was fine in 2008, but times should move on, not stay stagnant. That's assuming she actually will be another Obama, and not worse, which is big fat baseless if. I want someone who's actually progressive, not a moderate Republican with a donkey hat.

Most of the things you mention are things I agree are not great, but I'm generally pessimistic when it comes to politics and will take more of the status quo, corrupt as it might be, over the outright open biggotry and obstructionisim being circulated on the Republican side and the strife likely to result.
Yeah, there's just no comparison. Hillary, even if you believe the worst about her, is still light years better than anyone the Republicans could possibly field. I would not be sad to see her as President.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Bernie Sanders began Super Tuesday with a landslide victory in his home state of Vermont.
A candidate not winning their home state would be more of an actual surprise. For it to not happen is a sign that they are extra double screwed.
I'm not a Democrat nor a primary voter, TBH. (I claim no party affiliation, I'm socially liberal and fiscally moderate-conservitive.)

Most of the criticisms about Sanders are about the viability of his economic policies; he seems to be well-regarded for his general ideas and philosophies, I don't think he is necessarily being dismissed for being an old white guy.

Speaking of which Kasich has said he'll drop out if he doesn't get Ohio.
Donald Trump extends dominance with wins in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Massachusetts.

Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company.Ugh, it'll be Meet The Old Boss if Hillary wins or From Bad to Worse if Trump wins >_<

Not that I'd be surprised but they haven't even closed all the polls yet to count. I know Sanders appears to have lost the first to be counted, though. I know my state's open for at least a few more minutes as of this posting. Nine pm ET equates to like seven pm central time, right?
