Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Not sure what would cause them to link with extra hyphens and spaces, then. I recall there used to be a problem with links that were too long doing that sort of thing here, but I thought that was fixed.

As for the Dem-Rep comparison, I could see an argument for the Dems being in a 2008 spot, an establishment candidate looks to win it but there's enough noise from the fringes that they're going to have to compromise. Here's the thing, the Republicans lost in 2008 with their establishment candidate, that's part of how the Tea Party came about, if the Dems win with Clinton all but a tiny minority will shut up and roll with it, the Dems would have to nominate Clinton and then loose for a Tea Party style wing to properly emerge.

That's kind of plan B for a lot of Sanders supporters: if we lose, lose big—and to trump, so that in 2020 we can get President Keith Ellison and a progressive supermajority.
I don't understand how an ineffective phonebanker is indicative of the alleged misogyny of "Bernie Bros."

Accelerationism was a fucking stupid idea when European Marxists came up with it in the 19th century and it's a really fucking stupid idea when Sanderistas do it. It's brilliant if you're white and middle-class and can ride out the storm, but see how Hispanic, Black, and poor America look after four years of Trump.
It's indicative of how out of touch some of Sanders supporters' are. It's also racist.

Yeah, that doesn't exactly equate to Bernie Bros. I'm not saying they don't exist, but a long period of silence doesn't necessarily mean "misogynist prick".
I'm quite happy worrying about both.

Oh God! Natural light!
The fact that, when trying to convince a black voter to switch allegiance, the first thing one of Bernie's phonebankers could come up with was 'he'll give you more welfare', is a pretty strong indicator of 'racist prick'.

Schild und Schwert der ParteiHonestly, that person reads more offended by the insinuation that they might ever need welfare.
Everyone should be offered welfare, regardless of race and with few conditions. It's a great platform for Sanders and a wonderful way to phonebank. Many middle-class, poor, and old people (especially minorities) care about welfare, social security and the minimum wage. Those are economic policies proven to both benefit people of all races, but especially minorities.

It's understandable that insinuation that they might need welfare because they're black would cause offense on some level.
While it is true that many black people might be faced with situations of poverty and difficulties with social mobility, it's not exactly something to say in good taste to a person just because they're black without you knowing anything else about them.

Not sure if this had been posted already, but...

Oh God! Natural light!"Black people would rather live on the government's dime than get a job" has been a major, incredibly racist argument against welfare for years. The insinuation that someone needs welfare because they're black speaks to a long, offensive history of politicians assuming that black folks are all worthless layabouts.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Someone needs to draw trump putting his head in the ground like an ostrich while KKK members are powerwalking right next to him.
I guess finding bullshit excuses for the stupid shit they say is to be expected from even these unapologetically horrible people, because I was fetching a news article about a brazilian politician doing pretty much the same thing trump is doing now for another thread.
The article that someone posted a page or so back (this one
) does a lot to make me feel better about supporting Clinton, but not much to make me feel better about how she's most likely doomed to fail.
Millennials are the least racist American demographic, with white Millennials the least racist overall.
Since the majority of Sanders supporters are Millennial, and white, I would argue that many of them aren't that racist. At least no more than Clinton's supporters, who are primarily over the age of 55 and thus far more likely to hold racialist biases.
Hillary Clinton ‘secret’ email count doubles as latest batch is released
Another 235 messages released Monday are deemed to have “confidential” information, which is the lower level of classification, meaning more than 2,000 of the 30,322 messages released from Mrs. Clinton’s secret account contained some information the government now deems too dangerous to release publicly.
The total classification rate is 6.8 percent — or about one out of every 14 messages she sent.

A reminder that the "Berniebro" is a cheap repaint of a line of attack from 2008
