Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Just my thoughts, he knew was out. I always assumed he was working for Bush or even Kasich though. But now things make sense, at least in this year of madness.
So, when we can classify the Moderate Republican as Extinct in the Wild, away from Critically Endangered?
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. With the regularity of the seasons:
And, surprise surprise:
It's just laughable at this point. If you'd read the report she (and her husband) wrote, you'd note that she actually discloses that.

Schild und Schwert der ParteiA memo prepared for the group zeroes in on ballot access as a looming obstacle for any independent candidate, along with actually identifying a viable, widely known contender and coalescing financial support for that person. The two states with the earliest deadlines for independent candidates, Texas and North Carolina, also have some of the highest hurdles for independents to get on the ballot, according to the research.
“All this research has to happen before March 16, when inevitably Trump is the nominee, so that we have a plan in place," a source familiar with the discussions said. March 16 is the day after the GOP primary in Florida, a winner-take-all contest that Marco Rubio supporters have identified as a must-win to stop Trump's early momentum.

Wow. That is some sexy, scary stuff. Do they not understand that a third-party bid would critically undermine both the Republican candidate and their own?
I'm watching Rubio's clash with Trump in the debate. It's kinda hilarious how both of them talk over the other without ever being reined in by the moderators. It becomes essentially a shouting match of Rubio slinging all the nastiest dirt he can at Trump, and Trump trying to drown his voice in retaliation.

Bloomberg is an unmitigated ass. That would have catastrophic consequences for our political system... maybe even revolutionary? But we can't have a parliamentary system without a Constitutional amendment.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"If Trump and Sanders each wins their respective primary and the establishment of each party fractures off to back an independent candidate, we might have a four-way horse race. That would be absolutely insane.
Clinton is promising to take Obama's work and keep it going. Her stump speech encompasses the following basic actions:
- Strengthen and expand Obamacare.
- Raise the national minimum wage (everyone is waving around the magic $15 number).
- Block the TPP (there is some question as to whether she'd actually do it, or is just blowing smoke, and there's no mention of TTIP, its Atlantic counterpart).
- Overturn Citizens' United (everyone wants that, it seems).
- Teach Wall Street how to play nicely with everyone.
I'm trying to think of specifics and coming up dry; maybe someone with more time can look up the details.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"A four way race would likely mean it going to the House, who would then be split between the Dems, establishment Republicans and the Tea Party Republicans, the vote would come down to if the Republicans could unify or if the establishment Dems and establishment Republicans could pick a unity candidate.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranWe've had four-way elections plenty of times, but there has not been an election since the Whigs split up where a third candidate won enough electoral votes to raise any concern about stopping one from having a majority.

Woooow Christie. Woooow. I mean I know ya hate Rubio but that doesn't mean you nominate Trump of all people. Could have just kept quiet.
That said, I did recall articles saying the two were actually personal friends so I guess I can't be too shocked.
EDIT- And now we know for whom Christie was playing hitman for in his final debate.
