Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

As much as Kelly is intelligent and occasionally willing to call out Faux News or its people on their BS, I don't think there can be much doubt that she is a bigot, or at least willing to spout bigoted phrases and policy.

| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |So Trump's new veteran donation website directs all donations to Trump's personal foundation
You know what, hat's off to Trump. Fucking brilliant, he is. Pre-character development Eddy can only DREAM of a scam like this

By way of comparison, near the beginning of his campaign, Trump conducted a fundraising event on the decommissioned U.S.S. Iowa for a group called "Veterans for a Strong America". This group claimed hundreds of thousands of members but consisted of exactly one person and had been disbarred by the FEC prior to the event, making Trump's actions technically illegal.
In later reporting, Trump's campaign stated that it did not track the money after it was raised and had no idea if it was ever spent on helping veterans.
So yes, this is exactly the kind of shenanigan that he is known for.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Intentional genius, or did his wimping out just happen to coincidentally work in his favor?
Plus, with him gone, everyone else focused on attacking each other, often for being not as far to the right (in certain issues) as him.
I've no problem believing it was intentional. He correctly figured that he didn't have much more to gain from the debates, while his opponents are all looking to assert themselves as the alternative to Trump. So he stepped aside to let them devour each other. It was a bit of a gamble, but not a huge one.

He also bankrupted a casino...
Ted Cruz knows about as much about basic military practices as the people complaining about the Oregon guys know about police procedure and shooting statistics. Either that or he's trying to appeal to a demographic that doesn't know anything about it...
Pro-tip, even if you want to go Internet Tough Guy all over ISIL, carpet bombing was abandoned by every decent military decades ago for being wasteful and inefficient. It's simply not good at killing people.

But Syrians aren't even brown.

Besides, even if that was his goal, carpet bombing would still be stupid.

The State Department has announced that they are not on-track to release Hillary Clinton's E-mails by deadline, so they will be postponing until *after* the New Hampshire primary.
The Obama Administration has confirmed that 22 E-mails from the postponed Clinton dump are classified as "Top Secret."
The response to that story seems to be that the emails in question were either not classified when they were sent/received, or were based on public-domain information. The Constitution bans prosecution of ex post facto crimes: actions that were not crimes when they took place.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
Of course the Clinton campaign would defend themselves by suggesting the E-mails are "overclassified."
Prior "classified" E-mails were released with redactions, but these 22 will not at all due to dealing with SAP-level information—the highest level of classification.
That's 37 pages that will not be released in any form.

It was mentioned earlier.
