Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The "worst" comments by Sanders actually remind me of Mercantilism
.
Which isn't a good idea. There's a reason why North America is not currently known as Nouveau France.
As with all GOP debates, I will be ignoring it and munching popcorn to the after-action reports by the talk shows. I suppose that Trump hasn't changed his mind about showing up to face Megyn Kelly?
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Oh yeah there's an undercard debate. Forgot all about that. Apparently Gilmore's in it again.
Also, I heard from my dad that the Megyn Kelly thing is just an excuse, and the real reason he's skipping is because there would have been a Muslim activist and illegal immigrant in the crowd who might ask questions and gang up on him. Don't know how true it is though.
According to what I heard earlier today, Trump has his own thing scheduled in the same town, same time, different venue. I'm actually kinda hoping that the Republican debate gets 'huge ratings just as a smack in Trump's face.
| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |I think it would be more accurate to say they realized that Fox is "establishment."
And despite Trump being almost everything they told their right-wing audience to want, his campaign is bad news for the Fox side of things, because they aren't their audience.
Ah, I see.

How long have we not heard from him?
And Cruz just said that Iowa will change from Flyover Country to "fly-to country" when he becomes President.
The capital of your theocracy, Ted?
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."I can't see how, unless he plans to move New York City or Los Angeles to the Midwest. Maybe he wants to turn it into the Protestant Mecca? #baffled

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"As Jeremy from CinemaSins would say: "Unkeepable promises." *ding*
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"

Yes, I would accept that Sanders has both isolationist views from a military perspective and protectionist views from an economic perspective. I don't inherently disagree with the former, while recognizing that it's not realistic to abandon all our military commitments; on the latter, I would prefer not to dump globalism but rather to repair it by stopping America's own anti-competitive trade practices. Coupled with strong redistribution to guarantee a living income for all citizens, this would address both of his concerns.
