Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

In her college days, she apparently voiced some support for Barry Goldwater, which didn't turn out well. I'm not going to judge people on their attitudes when they were young-and-stupid, especially if their work since then has displayed a consistent movement towards progressive positions. I have no idea if the troll is referring to that or something else, since they have their own circle-jerk sites that recycle every discredited meme and "sting" story known to man.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Can we not recycle the troll's comments? That's just what he wants.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"But it's funnyyyyyyyy
Speaking of Trump, I read a few things about some Latinos for Trump which is like, a facebook group about Trump supporters who are also latinos. Of course, this comes to no surprise for anyone. There were black people voting for Goldwater, jews voting for Hitler etc etc.
But the reasons I read of were hilarious. Apparently most of Latinos who support Trump are the minority of latinos (That is, they are most likely south or central americans) instead of mexicans, because they pretty much hate mexicans too.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothes![]()
In the political arena, while it can be useful to note a politician's past undesirable policies, it is somewhat unfair to hold those as more important than their current policies. I strongly disagree with the distressingly common sentiment that changing one's position is a sign of weakness. Rather, it seems to me that a politician who is unwilling to change their mind regardless of new evidence or experiences is a bad politician.
Cute. They are the "We hate Mexicans too!" crowd.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Yeah but don't underestimate how easy it is to hate mexicans. Their TV is terrible, their arrogance is legendary, their accent annoying and they are all goddamn feeders in League of Legends. Every single one of them I fucking swear.
Also football, or something. It is always goddamn football.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesWe are veering off topic..
But yes. It is a common perception of Mexicans for several historical and cultural reasons. Briefly said, Mexico was pretty much the country that dedicated itself the most to fight Spain. After Spain recognized its independence and that of other Central American provinces, Mexico attempted to rally them into one empire under its banner.
It worked awfully.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I've seen a source from one of the other militiamen claiming that the deceased tried to bypass the police blockade in his truck, and got stuck off-road in the snow in doing so. He immediately abandoned the truck and charged the cop.
The guy who died is specifically a guy who was noted lying under a tarp with a gun in earlier media that got out. He in particular seems to have wanted suicide by cop or something like it out of this.
Sometime around John Adams. (That would be the second president, after George Washington.)

Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.

Posted above but got lost in the shuffle.
Any idea where that claim about Clinton campaigning for segregation comes from? She actually went under cover to investigate segregation
, so maybe the troll is spinning that?
It can't just be the Goldwater thing, right?
