Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

On the primaries? Not much. It'll make campaigning a bit tough, but the candidates won't be in that area anyway.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"You guys are lucky. Here it seems to be persistent autumn and the snow that fell a week ago is expected to disappear in a few days, followed by rain and well above seasonal temperatures.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI liked the alternate title for the Trump fanfic
proposed by Metro - "50 Shades of Toupee".
I'm in the Allentown area. We are projected to get anywhere from 2 to 2 million inches, depending on whether the little line on the weather graphic drifts north or south of us. (I could be exaggerating a trifle on the upper end.)

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Another take on the National Review vs. Donald Trump thing.
This editorial says that National Review considers Donald Trump too moderate.
Conservatives haven't forgiven Trump. McIntosh dismisses his wealth tax as "the largest tax increase in American history."
The tax plan that Trump put forward last year is a much more conventionally conservative proposal, yet Trump hasn't abandoned his rhetoric of making the rich pay more.
"The hedge-fund guys are getting away with murder," he said in August. "They're paying nothing, and it's ridiculous."
In other words, they're also against his reasonable positions.

Well, it's been said before (even by me, in fact), but Trump isn't so much a Republican as he is a particular type of socially-Conservative Democrat.

Leviticus 19:34I know this isn't U.S. related
, but it reminds me of the early attack on the homeless Hispanic man by Trump supporters too much. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if Trump himself brings them more publicity by praising them.
We rarely get much snow here, since we're nestled right under the Rocky Mountains. The Rockies get tons of snow, but our storms tend to roll down the mountains, blitz overhead with a couple hours of downfall, then fly off into Kansas.

have you remembered to switch to winter tires? a lot of Americans seems to not do that, thus traffic turns into chaos.
luckily i live in Norway, where winter always has snow, so we can laugh at how unprepared Americans are for snow![]()
That's not the only reason traffic turns to chaos. I've never changed to snow tires and I drive a small car. Even when I lived up in the mountains where it dumped, I never had a problem with the ice or snow.
No, the people who cause all the problems in traffic here are the idiots in the four-wheel-drive trucks who think that having 4W means that you can't slide on ice, and frequently plunge themselves off the side or into a tree trying to go 85 MPH down a frozen mountain road.

I'm not saying it's the Democrats fault. I'm simply saying that's a major concern with Trump and a big reason why the Republican party won't accept him.
Thing is, the GOP Establishment has decided
(Vox) more or less they prefer The Donald over Cruz
.
Basically Trump might be a loud mouthed asshole and a bigot, but he's bringing in a flush of new potential voters AND he's a pragmatist in their eyes, not a ideologue like Cruz. And he's basically been a member of the party's Donor class who has known most of the fellow GOP elites for years.

I hear there's some bad weather coming to the East Coast. What effect will this have?
