Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

When people just say "Snyder" my brain always has to think "Wait, why would they talk about the movie director? Oh, they're talking about the Batman writer. Wait, that makes no sense either" before remembering that there's a really bad politician named that as well.

Isn't the difference though extensive evidence of Governor Synder (and his people) messing up, trying to cover it up, and still doing barely a half-assed job of actually trying to fix anything though? Where as Miss Clinton really doesn't seem guilty of anything in that regard?

There were issues with the US running special operations against AQ in the area but not buffing up security on their diplomatic mission. However it never got to Clinton's level, the screw up was further down the line.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranWell, that one guy made a gaffe on air about the Benghazi thing being specifically to discredit her, but the rest seem dedicated now to either forgetting the thing to cover up their embarrassment or still acting like she did something wrong with the e-mails. We haven't actually heard much about Benghazi since then, though this movie coming out may change that.
It's Michel Bay, disgustingly cliche and shallow is what he does, along with product placement and ass shots of Megan Fox.
The Democrats are having a debate tonight.
At the usual inauspicious time, 9:00.

I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom. On a Sunday night. When many Americans are busy watching football. Thanks, DNC chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.
That's right, boys. Mondo cool. The more I read about what these fuckers are doing at the wildlife refuge, the angrier I get. Now they're paving roads and taking down cameras: http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/jan/16/oregon-militias-behavior-increasingly-brazen-as-public-property-destroyed?CMP=edit_2221
Cameras. At a wildlife refuge. Probably used for wildlife monitoring. Well, this season's data is gone and I hope no grad student or researcher is relying on those data.

I think there's an issue of terminology here. As an American, colonists would mean people in the 1600s, who didn't know about the germ theory.
Depending on the year, people on the trail may have been aware of it (at least in the sense of boiling water- and coffee was pretty popular/common by that point).
