Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

@The hashtag that shall not be named: as you know, it's actually about ethics in video game journalism.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Speaking of spiting, what the heck is wrong with Clinton's campaign folks? Attacks on Sanders? Really? Hardly seems like a smart move. Even The Daily Show is bizarrely committed to attacking Sanders in surprisingly petty ways. No such critique towards Hillary, though.
Lots of disappointed reactions to that one, let me tell ya.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Nominally. In reality, it's a venue for vicious attacks on women in gaming media.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Seeing as the ban on this topic seems to no longer be in effect (as demonstrated by how people are regularly allowed to mock and take shots at the hashtag) I'll bite.
If you look into it you'll actually find that there are a lot of legitimate questions about the practices of games journalists that were raised, it's a bloody shady industry at times, the people carrying out abuse certainly did exist and are assholes but they were far from alone, the counter hashtag had lots of people sending death threats as a response and the entire thing got very ugly.
The press response focuses on the abuse, publicising it and very much feeding the trolls and possibly helping to abuse continue and escalate, it also helped the press to ignore the actual legitimate criticisms being levied against them as they were able to dismiss the people going "hey shouldn't your journalists disclose in they have a close personal relationship with the developer of a game they're reviewing?" By lumping them in with abusers that they shared nothing but an uncontrolled hashtag with.
There are legitimate questions about gaming journalists lack of ethics that were swept under the rug by legitimate questioners being forcefully lumped in with abusers, even if they never used the hashtag they would still be lumped in with it, their points ignored and they themselves bombarded with death threats.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranEh, I shouldn't have allowed the floodgates to open. My bad. There is no possibility of having a reasoned debate about journalistic ethics (which are a serious problem) when there is so much noise coming from the anti-woman crowd. Those people would do well to divorce themselves from that hashtag.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"It would be different. That doesn't translate into "better" automatically. Parliamentary systems help dilute the "your vote is meaningless" issue of winner-take-all elections, but they also give voice to a lot of elements that would be better left in obscurity. Witness the existence of nakedly Fascist and Communist parties in Europe. They can also lead to the hijacking of a government by a minority that the ruling coalition needs to stay in power.
The real problem with our Congress is that it is not representative of the people thanks to gerrymandering, especially in the House. Fix that and you fix a lot of other problems.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"You'd be replacing more then Congress, you'd be replacing the executive as well. It would be more centralised and more able to act with one mind, but that would also mean less checks and ballences, so it's a trade off.
A Parliment doesn't mean getting rid of First Past The Post.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranAbout the hashtag, I didn't mean it literally. I thought "it's actually about ethics in videogame journalism" was a well-established punchline by now, and spoke it out in a purely referential sense.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

People think it's the Nintendo minifig collection, which was basically Amiibo before Amiibo, there were two sets both with a Mario and Luigi in it. There are two Luigi in that screenshot.
