Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Go home, Jeb!. You're the least liked candidate among the entire GOP field.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I'll pick up the summary later. I'm not terribly interested in watching a politician speak for two hours, even if it's Give No Fucks Obama.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Indeed. Mine is one that opted to not expand state medical services to comply with ACA, and you pretty much have to be homeless/jobless/assetless to be even considered for medicaid now. I shudder to think about what would happen if even more social service programs were left entirely in their hands.

Republicans realllly seem to love local internet monopolies.
And yet more and more of the American people are feeling the pain of the high prices and data caps. They're complaining more and more. It's becoming a harder and harder issue to ignore. Could it be more fucking obvious that these scum don't represent their voters? At what point will Republican voters get sick and tired of "corporate Republicans" and throw them out?
They already are throwing them out. Unfortunately, it's not happening fast enough, and it has other deleterious consequences, such as emphasizing naked racism and religious insanity over corporate greed.
Because what you get when you stroke a Republican is one of those three, basically. Well, four if you count the omnipresent gun fetishists.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"

The armed militants occupying the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge announced Tuesday morning that they will drive into Burns at the end of the week to hold a community meeting and inform residents when they will leave.
Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company.
