Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Meh on that report. I highly doubt even the greenest survivalist type wouldn't have showed up without at least a few MR Es or something.
I actually just did some looking into Ben Carson: remember that conjoined twin surgery he did?
Well apparently the twins became unable to properly care for themselves, became wardens of the state, and one died. Carson didn't succeed in jack shit when he separated them. Great surgeon my ass.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Mmm, even with his failures, he's still one of the most successful neurosurgeons of his day (and highly respected for that even among the most liberal doctors I've known). It's a damn shame he became such a sellout later on. To a lot he seems to be something of a Fallen Hero for that nowadays.

Carson isn't like Trump as much as he is like Herman Cain. He has no grasp of foreign policy whatsoever; he had to be trained repeatedly to find anything except the United States on a map. His tax proposal mirrors that stupid "nine nine nine" thing that Cain pushed. He's uber anti-science and anti-knowledge, which is really odd for someone whose trade is medicine. He's the kind of fundamentalist that Ted Cruz might be if he skipped theology and Sunday school and just went off the cuff from a layman's understanding of the Bible.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Didn't Richard Dawkins say on CNN that he met Carson and hit it off with him or something? I saw Dawkins on CNN once saying that the Republican candidates are only throwing their religious beliefs around because they're trying to appeal to people, and how they didn't need to do that (never mind the fact that I'm pretty sure most of them are just that idiotic in their beliefs).
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Somewhere around 10-20 years ago, Carson was also a bit of an icon in the black community because he was seen as proof that you really could get ahead with hard work and by being really good at what you chose to do, no matter where you started from.
Now, of course, he's turned into your basic half-senile, ultra religious, out there great uncle at the Thanksgiving table that leaves the whole family praying he won't do anything too crazy when they get together for the holidays.
| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |One, Ben Carson IS quiet. To the point that a lot of people joke about him being asleep on stage during the debates.
Two, Dawkins doesn't seem to realize that "appealing to voters" means appealing to certain kinds of voters that want officials whose religious beliefs lines up with theirs. "Don't need to do that" doesn't mean it's not profitable to them to do it.

Just cut off the TV signal. Realistically, how long will they be able to last without it?
It is sometimes an appropriate response to reality to go insane.
