Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

He was a Christian, engineering class had nothing to do with it (it was an elective course anyways). I live in Marianna, Florida, and at the time I went to school in Chipley (which is a very harshly conservative place). Hardly anyone else there was anything other than Christian, and I initially identified as one until that incident (and some others) made me convert to agnosticism. I only ever met one atheist there, and she didn't actually become an atheist until after people bullied her for believing in evolution and more or less being, as they put it, a "freak" (it was because I took sympathy on her that we became close friends). Hell, I had to tell all my friends to keep my agnosticism a secret because I was worried people would harass me and try to lynch me. Even my friends, despite most of them being open Christians, hated how stuck up everyone was.
I'm not even kidding, the city of Chipley is like looking at a weird parody of conservative politics, except it's all real. I had to deal with homophobia (which got pretty bad when I realized I was bisexual), I had to deal with racism, I had to deal with people being holier-than-thou hypocrites who rubbed in how "Christian" they were (as if that's even a thing Christ preached about, seeing as how he taught the exact opposite moral in the Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector), and I had to deal with being laughed at and harassed for being an open liberal (after I while I fell out of favor with liberal politics and now consider myself center aligned, but I still empathize more with the left than the right). It was like a fucking cult of personality there. They even had a Bible study group, which if memory serves well is kind of illegal to do.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I have a lot of problems when it comes to the South, especially when it comes to politics, but Chipley is worse than any other place I've visited. I mean, in my home city (Marianna), the people are conservative, but most of them dislike Trump and react with disgust at harsh actions towards Muslims and homosexuals. In Chipley, it's a goddamn cult where the Baptist Church reigns supreme. I don't even know how anyone who isn't Christian can survive there. My sophomore English teacher was Jewish, and one student flat out said she was going to hell because she wasn't Christian (never mind that Jesus was Jewish). I mean, at least my Aunt's ex-husband has the excuse of being a drug abusing hippie in the 60s for his insane religious ramblings, these guys are just fucking idiotic.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?your fault for living in the place where all the nuts roll down to

advancing the front into TV TropesI mean how can someone think someone else mentioning god in a yearbook quote is stupid. That asshat might have believed it was satanic or unAmerican or bullshit like that, but stupid? I'm not criticizing you Adric De Psycho4th, just trying to figure out how people can think like that guy. Oh, and I am so sorry you had to live in that shithole.
And with the male version of the classic add voice. Honestly can we have a troupe for that. That and the female voice appear in like 90 percent of all US campaign adds, for both parties. Whomever does them must make a killing.

Which is literally god but in another language. You can argue that he is a different god from the Christian one, and I don't have enough expertise to argue ether way, but what is the actual difference between that and Conservative Christians talking about god in their quotes. I'm being a bit facetious, trying to talk about logic in such an illogical situation.

The fact they are trying to get into Spain not the US?

I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom. You know what's really, really scary? If Trump becomes president, he'll be able to deport immigrants/Muslims before they even realize they've been deported.
I probably shouldn't kid though, even if he doesn't have a snowball's chance on the sun of winning he's still a straight up monster.

Am I remembering wrong, or is the old "had my penis out and fell into her vagina" excuse lifted right out of an old Muslim parable?
Edit: I was totally misremembering, was thinking of this

I'm not sure how that's in any way related to U.S. politics.
I forgot to mention, according to this asshat, Allah isn't a "real God". That's what he got pissed about, and I was told by some people on a site me and Fry over here frequent that Allah literally means God in Arabic, so the guy was basically being an idiot.
Let me also reiterate that Chipley, Florida is an anti-science wasteland. They don't believe in evolution or that the world was created several billion years ago, and they are waiting for the Rapture to come because they "know" they'll be going to heaven (as if one can know with all certainty where they'll end up in the afterlife). The place is fucking idiotic.
Also, Field Marshall Fry, at least our President had sexual relations with a human and not a damn pig.
