Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I would prioritize the submarines.
But I would also comission a new class that carries an M777 retractable deck gun behind the conning tower and W48 shells because I played too much Supreme Commander...
"War without fire is like sausages without mustard." - Jean Juvénal des UrsinsHave a theory on Christie's "gaff".
So, the king of Saudi Arabia who recently died was named Abdullah and the newish King of Jordan is also named Abdullah. So my guess is that he might have gotten the two merged in his head and when he was speaking. Like in an effort to avoid referring to the dead king of Saudi Arabia he accidentally referred to the dead king of Jordan.

Doesn't Bill Gates mainly deal with computers?

That kind of makes sense, also there's the fact that the Saudi and Jordinian royal family's are also related. Both are decended from the House of Hashim.

Look upon my privilege ye mighty and despair.
I've been told that he's the man to go if you want to deal with such issues.

It is sometimes an appropriate response to reality to go insane.Putin praises Trump: "Absolute leader"
.
An excellent continuation of the weird GOP-Putin daddy kink relationship.
Well. Putin is not stupid. He is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay above Trump in politics. Putin could manipulate Trump like...well. Putty.
It benefits Putin to praise Trump and if he gets elected, really, mostly because Putin is a manipulative bastard who could get some benefit out of having such an imbecile in the U.S seat of power.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesPutin would do well to have any of the current crop of Republicans as President because of their weird combination of worship and fear of the man. They'd inflate his domestic ego by either grandstanding against him or kowtowing to him.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Certainly not to Republican voters. Why would it? It's not like they are swarming to support any of the candidates who have any understanding of foreign policy, regardless of how flawed it might be (*cough* Lindsey Graham).

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"You must have missed all the talk about how Obama is Putin's bitch, and how Putin is a model of how to generate respect on the international stage. Putin is a "decisive leader". Putin would deal with ISIS. And so on. They might as well be lining up to have his babies.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Surely there is also some love for the semi naked pictures of Putin's chiseled-from-marble abs and perfectly lined pecs, with the steely, icy stare of his clear eyes drilling through your soul and straight into your heart...
And his hatred for the homogay.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothes![]()
Except even that would be a lie. Putin is doing a very good job of destroying his country's economic interests. His attempts at combating ISIL so far have been laughable.
The Right has an inherent tendency to adopt authoritarian attitudes because it fears the tyranny of the majority.

I wouldn't say that though. The Russian economy is steadily improving and Russian efforts against the Daesh have extremely effective despite them not even being the primary targets.
They've moved their strategic bombers into Syria and the amount of destruction they can put out is almost unthinkable.

Oh really when?![]()
I don't know about "more moral", necessarily; that's pretty subjective, but "better informed" has been proven in quite a few independent studies. After all, at least our Presidential candidates can find the Middle-East on a map, know which leaders over there are alive, and know that our nuclear arsenal is more than "awesome destructive coolness". The GOP primary is a fact-free zone.
People who get most or all of their news from Fox have been demonstrated to be less knowledgeable than people who don't follow the news media at all. That should tell you something. Whether the average Democrat is a morally superior person to the average Republican is a pointless rabbit hole, but at the very least we aren't trapped in a propaganda bubble fueled by billionaire ideologues.
If you want to talk morality, there's the whole torture and carpet bomb anyone who looks vaguely like a terrorist thing going on.
"Magnitude of destructive capability" is not a criterion for success in asymmetric warfare.

Better than not knowing his shit about nukes. Can you imagine a guy like Trump getting his hands on that big red button? Brr...
