Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Just came across this on my facebook feed. From the New Yorker- Richard III's "responses" to "letters from presidential candidates"
. Quite funny (IMO) but admittedly pretty mean.

Fiorina and Carson are finished. The former can't seem to get new talking points (she keeps repeating the same stuff from her second debate and it is seriously stale now) and the latter sounds even more naive than he did before (with one small point in his favor...he actually talked to the Syrians, expressing a sentiment we see in Vice videos and such from them).
@ Hodor: Romney at least had the experience that being a governor gives a politician. So basically he was both a career politician AND a businessman. I've never really thought Trump or Fiorina were good candidates because all they've been able to cite is their business experience: they've undoubtedly got good skills in that area but those don't exactly translate well into being President of the US. I don't see much reason to vote for any candidate that hasn't held some sort of position in government before to prove that they're basically competent/have had training in the kinds of skills that being a president requires.
Course, then, Trump started all the shit he's come to be known for in his campaign, so. Definitely don't want him.
I kind of think that line voting would be useful if the Republicans insist on having this many candidates every cycle after this; Republican voters can list their preferences and whoever gets the least support has to drop out after a debate so that the others can actually get some air time.
I'm not even sure why Rand Paul is still in this. He's never been able to get a substantial amount of support, so it's like he's just being stubborn now.
Trump blasts Scotland's 'small-minded mentality' after court blow
The Trump Organisation was reacting after Britain's Supreme Court unanimously threw out his bid to stop an offshore wind farm being built near his luxury Scottish golf resort.
"History will judge those involved unfavourably and the outcome demonstrates the foolish, small minded and parochial mentality which dominates the current Scottish Government’s dangerous experiment with wind energy," a statement on behalf of the organisation said.
Scotland's government had given the go-ahead to build 11 turbines off the northeastern coast, provoking anger from Trump who believes they will spoil the view from the nearby greens of his multi-million dollar golf complex.
Lawyers for Trump, whose call last week to deny Muslims entry to the United States provoked widespread criticism in Britain, had argued at the UK's top court that the Scottish government's decision to approve the scheme was flawed.
Trump, who speaks proudly of being half-Scottish and whose Gaelic-speaking mother hailed from Stornoway on the northern Isle of Lewis, has already lost a series of battles in Britain's lower courts and his last chance to block the plans rested with the Supreme Court, the country's highest judicial body.
"We will evaluate the Court’s decision and continue to fight this proposal on every possible front," the statement said.
... There is petty, technologically reactionary and self-centered, and then there is Trumpism.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Ugh, do not remind me of our gigantic, suspicioulsy phallic mega-flagpole in Jeddah, please. That thing is so absurd and useless; every time a dust storm or rainstorm comes, they immediately take down the flag.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. He should be declared persona non grata worldwide. Yes, including the USA and Israel.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. And then Cruz should join him in that status. Apparently, he called for the Middle-East to be "carpet bombed until the desert glows". Because genocide is the solution to all problems.

From what I'm hearing, Carson's been quiet, hasn't he?
