Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I think it is too early to assume that Trump would launch the Fourth Reich. If we get past the nomination and he's still at it, though, then Hillary would be justified (hilariously) in plastering posters of him everywhere in an SS uniform with a picture of a concentration camp in the background.
Heck, I'd make those up myself and paste them over any Trump signs I found.
"Vote Trump! Sieg Heil!"

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"It was largely local police forces and the SS that did most of the dirty work. The Wehrmacht were largely uninvolved.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Considering that the KKK (and presumably, the American Nazi Party and their ilk) are using the Trump campaign to recruit...that's not out of the question. Trump might not be actively helping those groups, but he sure is hell is bringing potential recruits out of the shadows.

Yeah, he's really not their kind of person. I think he may have been in a church once or twice in his life.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Yup. I'm convinced that Evangelicals are more about politics than their actual religion. Wasn't Mormonism considered a Satanic cult by them until suddenly Mitt Romney was the Republican nominee?
They'd vote for an uber-conservative atheist before they'd vote for Rachel Held Evans if she ran for office. (RHE is a liberal Evangelical and the author of Monkeytown, about how she started to challenge her former conservative, rigid views) And they'd invent justifications for why it would be suddenly okay to accept an atheist.
Trump doesn't scare people. He scares their business. The evangelical church could not survive too long trying to defend the sorta stuff Trump does. This is not The Iron Heel
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesSo basically right now we have an electoral battle between a guy bent on becoming New Hitler, but without the theocratic-religious trappings of the likes of Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee.
And then we have the guys who went to a rally hosted by a Kill The Gays Pastor who advocated casting out "spirits of Queen Elsa down to hell" and calling "Let it Go" Satan's Song.
Evil vs. Evil if there was ever an example. If these were the only options, that'd be really scary.

At this rate, if Trump doesn't plummet fast, he'll win enough primaries to at least become a kingmaker at the convention. The RNC should prepare for that. Ideally by getting the all but the most viable out of Ryan/Rubio/Christie/Bush/Gramah to drop out and try to inject some moderate sanity back into the process. And even then, with a majority of the GOP base supporting Trump/Cruz/Carson... the RNC might be down to damage control, by conceding the White House and containing the damage to the Senate/House/Governors' Mansions.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.in response to the petition to block Trump from entering the UK, This Week brought up two very good points in support and against, for it, why should Trump be treated any differently to other hate preachers? politicians from other countries have been banned for entering for saying similar things, is the only difference the office he is running for? does that make him exempt from the law? against, he has been given a very, VERY, easy ride in the States, even by the supposedly "left wing" news sources have been going easy on him in the interviews, and he has yet to experience British interview steel, he would get crucified on Question Time, and it would be quite funny to watch him sweat as he's called out for being a fucking fascist...
advancing the front into TV TropesWhen this idea was initially being debated inside right-of-center circles, the smartest conservative thinkers specifically warned that attempting the ‘missing white voter’ strategy without meaningful gestures of economic moderation would lead to something ugly. There has been no meaningful move to the center on economics, and–as predicted–the results are ugly…

Considering the highly conservative direction the police are heading with the NYPD basically refusing to do anything unless they're given carte Blanche again.
Thinking about this together with Trump's disgusting fascist policies, it'd take very little for a President Trump to attain the Waffen-SS, because with how insular and militarized the police are, all they lack is the Himmler copy in control.
