Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

It's a few days old, but I though it may be worth mentioning as it's in regard to the San Benardino shooting.
What the Hell Just Happened on MSNBC and CNN?
I've seen a picture of one of the guys rummaging through the child's room and showing toys he found to the cameraman. So what the actual hell?
Another article about that
, same source.

We learn from history that we do not learn from historySo Martin O'Malley (you know, the other guy in the Democratic race
?) called Trump a "fascist demagogue" in response to his "ban the Muslims" policy. Sanders only called him a demagogue while Clinton limited herself to calling him "reprehensible, prejudiced and divisive", which is right but not as harsh as I'd like.
All the GOP candidates called him out to one degree or another (Christie, Rubio, Bush, Graham and Kasich were all appropriately severe, and some were harsher than Clinton)...except for fellow lunatic/fanatic Ted Cruz who only said it "wasn't his policy", probably because Cruz thinks that if Trump slips up he can win over the far-right wing of the GOP base and doesn't want to tick them off.
Yeah, I want to ask if Trump can get any crazier. I mean if he does he'll eventually start calling for violence explicitly rather than implicitly.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I doubt he'll stop American citizens from leaving; if people leave because of a hypothetical Trump White House's policies, he'll just call them "losers" and say good riddance.
Now if they flee to Canada/Mexico and attempt to overthrow him, Bay of Pigs style, things might change.

: I don't know offhand, but I'm sure that you could extrapolate it given the polling agencies' methodology. X% of R voters say they'd support Trump, Y% of voters are R's. X * Y * voting population = Trump supporters, within the margin of error of the poll.
You're missing two levels, X% of the population are Republicans, Y% of them are primary voters, Z% of them are early enough primary voters that their vote can be measured now, Q% of them are voting for Trump.
Oh and Trump has already called for/condoned violence, a group of racists attacked a black person at a rally and Trump said the victim deserved it or something along thouse lines.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranSo, hypothetically, what would happen if the President were banned from stepping on the soil of one of our closest allies?

Donald Trump isn't going to become president, and if he did he wouldn't be banned from the territory of one of your closest allies, because we wouldn't be one of your closest allies, neither we nor anybody else would be your allies.

He'll just have a representative, in theory.
Truth be told though, I seriously doubt Trump will even get the nomination, let alone the actual presidency.

To paraphrase someone else: If you guys manage to elect Donald Trump as president, you officially have to turn in your "Greatest Country of the World" card.

Yeah... Maybe he wants all the hype. Don't know if he has anything in mind for Muslims living in countries like Singapore, but I'm sure he's gonna lump them all together.

Does anyone remember how 10 years or so ago people were always complaining about how politicians never apologize? Is this a cyclical thing or something?
