Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

There's a statistic for foreign relations, and some policies that will impact them. Sometimes you will get asked whether or not you want to deploy the army, though there's never a situation (that I know of) where you have to fight an actual war. A weak military can result in some land loss overseas.
Nah, America could never become fascist. Don't you know? We invented freedom!
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.To be a genuine, purebreed fascist, Trump would have to have a grand vision of the Nation's Destiny, an epic narrative, an obsession with futurism, progress, and speed, and an open enthusiasm for babies and war. What I've seen of him so far seems much more pedestrian.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. What he's saying is not worrying or frightening, nutters have the privilege to publicly spew whatever nonsense they feel like. It's the applause he gets that's concerning.
I don't think that title can apply in real life.

It is sometimes an appropriate response to reality to go insane.![]()
There are two or three basic subsets of Trump voters:
- Voters who wholeheartedly agree with his politics; they want the Mexicans and Muslims kicked out of the country for a Free America.
- Voters who see him as representing an outsider view that will "fix up Washington"; they either don't care about or are willing to ignore his actual politics. These are the folks who will tell you, "At least he says what he means."
- Voters who reflexively check anything with an "R" next to it and are piling on to the front-runner's bandwagon.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"For Democracy we probably have a thread in the Video Games section and if we don't someone can always make one, it's a good game and has actually been a cussed of having Socalist leanings, due to how left wing policies tend to actually world and building a Socalist utopia isn't that hard.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI'd argue that Trump gets a lot of support because he's basically the exact opposite of your standard issue mass-produced politician. Politicians are popularity hounds, tend to backpedal on everything they say, often vague about their intentions, generally polite and composed.
Trump, by contrast is: Doesn't give a crap what anyone thinks about him, is very frank (to use a polite term), completely unapologetic, and says what he thinks.
Because people hate politicians, they love Trump. They view his rudeness as being a realist who says things how they are. Personally, I never minded standard-issue politicians that much, and I think Trump's popularity is just...ridiculous.
