Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

"a bunch of idiot pro-lifers took to twitter to cheer on the gunman."
Various people in the comments section make good points: Notice how most of the people in support of the shooter are men. This isn't about right to life at all. It's about controlling women.
There's also a sadly true political cartoon in the same comments section if you look for it.

If anyone pregnant is inside, it's also anti-baby.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Americans... fucking hell... not only is the irony of shooting an abortion centre lost on the far right, but a potential presidental candidate says what has to be the stupidest thing in the history of the Republican party, and that includes every time Ben "the Pyramids stored grain" Carson and Donald "too many things to list" Trump open their mouths... at least our nut jobs are only vaguely racist!

X3 We have plenty of out and out racists, Farage for one.
The tendency of American nuts to shoot people though is a noted thing, when it turned out that the guy who hacked a phone company over here was a moody, isolated teen who played video games it was commented "if he was American he'd have gunned down a school".

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ Cyranthe racist toad was who I was referring to, but he has managed to tone down the racism from "we don't need to worry about the n*gger vote" levels in the 90's to "all Romanian's are thieves" these days, and in the backlash against any level of political correctness, people refuse to acknowledge that as out and out racist, but American's and guns... you'd think they would have learnt their lesson by now

advancing the front into TV TropesI was being nice, I like to think the fate of the world isn't in the hands of people who ignore all evidence for their own crackpot theory or think that their company going bankrupt several times is perfectly normal...

Probably a lot of people. In the back of their minds they imagine that if only Howe hadn't attacked Philadelphia,or Cornwallis hadn't pulled his army into that dam port than we would have ended up like Canada. I remember reading several articles suggesting that if Scotland left the UK we should use the opportunity to come crawling back to merry old England.
US foreign policy is almost entirely controlled by the President, and they are usually sane, yes even Bush.
Edit: If you want to blame anything blame the British policy of benign neglect, and their latter decision to reverse that policy. It led to the colonies developing separate institutions and ideal. Thankfully you learned with Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and they have stagnated into good obedient little colonies

I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.Meanwhile, someone is going to sue Obama...
...for not being active enough on climate change.
(I bet you thought after reading that first part that it was a Republican ploy, huh?
)
Can this not turn into an argument over whether the U.S. or U.K. are a shittier people? Thanks.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Everyone is crazy in their own way. Even Canada has unleashed horrors to the world, such as Justin Bieber. Even poor little silly harmless Belgium has its history of bloodshed and mutilation and massacring in Congo.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothes

Effectively the same thing in my eyes. He said it implicitly.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
