Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Accepting a candidate would win without any alternative? What are you, German?
@ Ace Of Spades Ah, sorry. Been reading the Twitter feed while it goes on, it's parsing my thoughts and expectations. So I've read and heard a bit lately, usually in a derogatory or mocking tone, that O'Malley is effectively running for vice president. For the first forty-ish minutes, O'Malley seemed to take a lot more indirect swipes at Clinton than Sanders. This made me wonder somewhat absentmindedly if he'd privately reached the conclusion that Sanders was a better bet for the nomination. Then the non-trivial issue of gun control and gun violence in this country was brought into it on Sanders' heels, and he predictably flubbed it (to the extent that he was boo'd). O'Malley, perhaps free now that the light mudslinging gloves had recently been donned first by Sanders and Clinton, took a more direct swipe at Sanders. He may have simply expected Clinton more likely to break the decorum first and was baiting her, among many other possibilities.
It was very briefly after he mentioned that he'd lost an election over the issue. If ya'll didn't catch it, I probably misheard.

"I have no fear, for fear is the little death that kills me over and over. Without fear, I die but once."It's a liberal crowd, if he was indeed booed. Despite the NRA considering him terrible for the industry and therefore for gun owners, he's been willing to come to the table on the issue in the past. Those that may have booed don't want any compromise or even talk of it.
I think he was being meta about the necessary costs of hosting the debates being commercial breaks. Or the rules of the debate being broken one too many times.

"I have no fear, for fear is the little death that kills me over and over. Without fear, I die but once."I have one policy about deciding elections. It's a very simple one.
THEY'RE NOT OVER UNTIL PEOPLE START VOTING.
I don't care whether Carson or Trump is ahead in the polls. I'm going to panic after Iowa and then maybe not even until New Hampshire, and not a moment sooner. As for Bernie vs Clinton, well, we'll see how the actual primary process goes once people actually start voting.
Honestly I've put some though in either getting involved in or starting a local campaign for bernie. Generally in between schoolwork and work-work, followed by realizing I have no time for it...and with that I remembered the calc hw I have due monday.

I'm baaaaaaackCliton seemed inevitable at the start, and she seems inevitable today and she never stopped seeming inevitable.
The media focuses on Sanders because they need a sense of competition to keep viewers interested. But if you want to be realistic, nothing has changed in the race.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI don't know, it looks like Sanders is winning the internet again, for whatever it's worth. http://time.com/4110860/democratic-debate-poll-who-won/

"I have no fear, for fear is the little death that kills me over and over. Without fear, I die but once."(-sighs- Goddamn Korean presidents...)
I don't know, I just like that look.
Obama also won the internet, from what I remember. Not saying one candidate or another is going to have great victory because of many internet winnings, just saying it doesn't look locked-up to me. March is a little ways off yet, and I remember Clinton's inevitability in 2007.
Messed the dates, sorry.
