Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I honestly don't know why we haven't done this, Iowa and New Hampshire get millions in spending from candidates each year and frankly it should spread around. Only thing I don't like is the thought of it happening in a state where I live, because as much as I pay attention to politics I'm sure I will quickly get fed up with being right in the middle of primaries.
Trump doubles down on ethnic cleansing and hate, claiming that all of the Syrian refugees are an army and will launch an ISIS coup
once they're brought to the US.
Trump said later Saturday that bringing in more refugees could have long-term effects. "This could be the ultimate Trojan horse. This one could be written about for a long time," he said at a campaign event in Franklin, Tennessee. "They probably think, 'This is going to be easy. We will send all these ISIS people.' So a big percentage could be them."
The Republican front-runner said President Barack Obama wants to take up to 200,000 Syrian refugees. "Obama wants to — listen to this — he wants to take in 200,000," he added. "You know, 200,000. That's like an army. Now I'm looking the other day. It's all men. Like, where are the women? They're very strong men. Why aren't they back there fighting for their country?" It was unclear where Trump got the 200,000 figure, and a message left with the Trump campaign Saturday afternoon was not immediately returned.
Trump also said the U.S. is "totally unprepared" to handle the possible challenges. He also reiterated his pledge to send the refugees back to Syria if elected president. "If they come in, and if I win, they're going back. They're going back," Trump said to applause. He called for the creation of a "safe zone" in Syria where the refugees could settle. "We have to help them in that sense, but we don't have to help them by taking them into our country," Trump said.
Last month, Obama ordered his administration to "scale up" the number of Syrian refugees admitted to the United States, directing his team to prepare for at least 10,000 for this fiscal year, which began on Thursday. The 10,000 Syrian refugees would be allocated out of a U.S. quota of 75,000 refugee admissions from around the world. A Senate aide last month said Secretary of State John Kerry told senators that the administration would "seek an additional increase beyond" the worldwide total, potentially as high as 100,000. In all, about 1,500 Syrian refugees have been admitted to the United States since the start of the Syrian conflict in 2011, the vast majority of them in the fiscal year that just ended.
It's really the only positive thing for having so many guns around. On the flip side we are more in danger from internal threats than external.
Iirc there was some Russian report during the start of the Cold War that said an invasion not feasible due to that hence why they doubled down on nukes. My facts might be off though on the origin of that though.
Well yeah.

Invasion isn't feasible because the US is massive and on the other side of an ocean, sure the guns make it worse, but simple geography is enough reason to resort to nukes.

Either way, even if we did bring in two hundred thousand, they won't be a very effective army if they're spread around in communities of 1k-3k.
That’s the epitome of privilege right there, not considering armed nazis a threat to your life. - SilaswFrom what I've read, invading the US has similar logistical problems to invading Russia or China. The only way a nation could invade the US is with nuclear weapons or by borrowing technology from aliens, demons, or demon aliens.

Leviticus 19:34
If the universe turns out to be a sci-fantasy ala Warhammer 40k, then we have demon aliens. So something like the hell beast.
Leviticus 19:34I don't see how it being said that it could amount to a war crime is particularly dramatical. Any time a civilian target is hit it could be a war crime, but there's a could in there for good reason, in the end it comes down to if the US probably carried out its duty of care when it comes to trying to avoid these kind of cock ups happening.

RNC chairman Reince Priebus suggested in an interview with the National Journal to broaden the early-nominating process to other states, or rotate the primary dates year to year.
