Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

He could just be a fan of white terrorists, the IRA are going to be one of the most well know white terrorist groups, especially when you consider that the US used to have a big thing for the IRA, with a lot of Americans funding them and the US government refusing to let the UK put said people on trial.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranApparently the shooter was mix-raced
and into Nazism. I'm still wrapping my head around that.
Its also interesting to note that he claimed he "doesn't like organized religion" and one student said the shooter asked people to state their religion before opening fire.

The artist formally known as Deviant BraeburnThat first link is to the Daily Express, which is not known for reliable reporting (the owner literally doesn't know the meaning of the word ethics, and the paper is so racist that it's own staff have complained to the regulatory body so that someone will stop them being made to write such racist crap) we got a source from an actual trustworthy organisation?

The artist formally known as Deviant BraeburnProbably a more reasonable statement would be requesting that Colleges have firearm-equipped security teams or police nearby.

Page bottomer, so I know no one is going to read these.
Ben Carson, like Cracked, believes Hitler can happen in America
, but refuses to state on camera which of his running mates it is.
At a press conference after the speech, reporters asked Carson who he thinks is like Adolf Hitler in the U.S. "I'm not going to go into that that. I think that example is pretty clear," he responded, without elaborating. When another reporter asked if he was comparing President Barack Obama to Hitler, Carson said, "No. I am saying in a situation where people do not express themselves, bad things can happen."
Earlier, Carson had said, "If people don't speak up for what they believe, then other people will change things without them having a voice. Hitler changed things there and nobody protested. Nobody provided any opposition to him." Meanwhile, as he was leaving the event, a reporter asked Carson how he would respond to Hurricane Joaquin if he were in the White House. "I don't know," he replied.
There has been widespread speculation about whether Biden will jump into the presidential race this fall. People close to Biden, who is still reeling from the death of his son this spring, say he has not yet made up his mind whether to enter the contest. On Thursday, CNN reported that Biden has extended his window for deciding whether to jump into the campaign. Sanders is an openly declared Democratic socialist, and that populism has fueled huge crowds during the summer from progressives who think the Democratic Party — and Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton — is too close to Wall Street. Biden drew a contrast with Sanders' wing of the party on Thursday.
"If you take a look at everyone from the IMF to Standard and Poor's, the greatest concern they have about economic growth is the concentration of wealth," Biden said. But, he said, "if you make widgets and there's not enough people to buy your widgets, you're not going to do well."

I'm not sure what quarrel an IRA guy would have in Oregon, though.
