Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

His budget cuts probably actually killed large numbers of the most vulnerable people. Pig-fucking, at his scale of damage, is purely anecdotal.
That kind of things stick to you, even when they're completely silly misunderstandings.
The obvious way to wash away the shame is with blood by the barrel!

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.I've no idea why rich kids a do this shit, I went to boarding school myself and there was no pig fucking there. I think it's a society thing, the idea is that by making you do such horrible shit they force you to commit fully to the group, it's the same way gangs will often make you do something criminal to join, so that way you can't ever leave safely.

The man's welfare reforms have been directly tied to at least one suicicde, I'll take whatever I need (within reason), to get rid of the fucker. Plus the other allegations (that he lied to parliment and was a massive coke snorter even as a married man) seem legit. That and he was enough of a shit to burn money in front of poor people so as to mock them, this is just that same shit in a different way.
Dead pig's head, still pretty bad though.
It could be fake, but it fits with everything we know about that group and the way they act, so there's a decent chance it's real, it also a weird thing to make up when there's so much real dirt to dish as is.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranJust sounds stupid. What do we gain by giving credence to fake stories that could bring big people down? Just the possibility of bringing anyone down with some stupid smear.
To mention something I just read of about actual U.S politics, seems like the U.S is considering accepting the sanctions of the U.N for the Cuban Embargo. This according to some source from the Associated Press.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesHe did something incredibly stupid in his frat years. I am honestly more apalled at the story of burning a 50 pounds note in front of a homeless man than the pig thing if either were true. One is gross, but harmless. The other is inherently malicious towards a living human being.
I mean, sure, the pig thing is funny to mock at but it ultimately says nothing about a person's character other than "Is willing to do gross things to belong to a group".
hey, speaking of leaders that were dumb shits on their universities, how is Dubya?

It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesOh true it's more funny then anything else, in the end he's done much worse, he did worse in his uni years and societies have had people do worse to join them. Still funny as fuck though.

What.
You gotta love the U Ns priorities, of all the issues, this is the most important?
edited 21st Sep '15 3:10:12 PM by Skycobra51
Look upon my privilege ye mighty and despair.Who said it was the most important? It's not like this is all the UN is doing.
For thosue unable to follow the link, the UN normally votes to condemn the U.S. embargo on Cuba, the US normally vetoes but might not this time.

And rightly so. The President should not take the side of a nebulous international organization against his own country, which is what he is doing. Especially one that gave Kin Jong Il a moment of silence, and almost made Syria a member of the Human rights council, and a whole bunch of other shenanigans I could get into.
Xi is visiting the White House
The leader of a nation that has repeatedly stolen US property, bullied our allies, and is generally aliened against us will receive a 21 gun salute, and presumably a groveling Obama prostrating himself before the premier ready to lick his boots.
They have also gotten closer to an "arms control agreement for cyber space", one China will almost certainly break, and than deny breaking.
As I recall North Korea has only been condemned once or twice. The UN is basically a place where irrelevant country's can bitch about how evil the US is. It's not like they can do anything else about it.

I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom. The UN has actually put a lot of effort into trying to help in Syria is much as it can. But yes, it does find the time to condemn a nation that is trying to interfere in the domestic politics of another county via an illegal embargo designed to bully the weaker country into submission.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. You can't make an enemy a freind without talking to them, likewise not talking to them increases the change of something accidentally going wrong. Diplomacy involves a lot of talking to and being nice to people you don't like, otherwise it would be easy.

You're not at war, so it's a breach of all sorts of bits of international law on free trade, rules that were specifically created to try and avoid situations where countries embargo each other out of spite and end up at war (see WW 1).
I'm pretty sure the embargo has always been condemned, or at least has been for a long time.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranThey did try to condemn it several times before.
The U.S always vetod it. They are considering not doing it this time.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesI think not selling nukes and weapons to certain countries is sliiiiiightly different than not selling coca cola to others.
All the U.N sanction is is a finger wagging, because it is quite a dick move.

Not sure, dude. That can cripple a person emotionally. if it is something he did not ever do, ruining his life for it seems pretty sadistic. If he goes down, then let him go down for something he did, not for stupid tabloid shit.
