Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The Mod with the Migraine
I think the Democrats desperately need to have a debate, and soon. The Republican debates, crowded as they are, are attracting a lot of media attention, and ensuring that whoever wins is seen as having earned it by proving him/herself the best candidate.
If Hillary just quietly wins "by default" instead of actually publicly meeting the challenge of her fellow candidates in some serious way, I think it's going to create further resentment for her among the voting populace come the primaries.

Uh, the first Dem debate is in less than a month, and still three months before the first primaries. They will get their debate time, with all 2.5 candidates. (or 3.5 if Biden actually enters the race.)note
Even Donald Trump admitted that progressive tax systems are not "socialist" during the debate. Too bad his economic doctrine is his only good attribute.

Of course, one must remember that hardcore Tea Party types see government itself as inherently illegitimate, so that doesn't count, but if they are to be intellectually consistent, they must also disqualify any government service undertaken by any of the GOP candidates.

I will admit that he presided over some pretty crappy behavior from the Baltimore police, which is the primary stain on his record as far as I'm concerned. Also, I have no idea what his platform is and the media is basically ignoring him, so... whatever.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"It's one of those Things Everyone Did that nobody worried about until it suddenly became a political issue.
Unless she actually engaged in illegal behavior, it doesn't really matter where she kept her emails. Of course, it would be nice if the State Department could get some money to build a better email system.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"It makes sense to me, it means you can access and process a ton of work stuff easily even without having to connect to the Internet, it protects you from network outages and means that secure correspondence can be sent out in secure bursts rather then in drinks and drabs that might be picked up.
