Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Yay, we should get Adams on the 20$ I like Adams. He had a cool HBO thing about him, that I enjoyed muchly.
Leviticus 19:34General Powell ended up being used as a fall guy to little eventual benefit by the Bush administration, probably because he kept butting heads with Donald Rumsfeld and clashed with their generally chicken-hawkish nature. http://www.theguardian.com/media/2004/sep/12/Iraqandthemedia.politicsphilosophyandsociety

"I have no fear, for fear is the little death that kills me over and over. Without fear, I die but once."So I'm watching the debate nownote . I have been mostly presently surprised by Fiorina, Rubio, and Rand Paul. But at the same time, for the most part, it's the same typical Republican obstructionist bullshit, and Trump can go fuck himself.
That’s the epitome of privilege right there, not considering armed nazis a threat to your life. - SilaswI think the winners are the people who didn't watch the debate. Like me.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Nah... Its good to watch the debate.
It helps you understand why American foreign policy in the past has been so murderous and disastrous.
I mean I watch those guys and I say thanks for Obama.
Also its fun to see them confuse hispanics with illegals, muslims with terrorist and so son. If you pay close attention is one of the few times you get to see American policy naked.
Nothing does more damage to the U.S standing around the world amongst the intelligentsia of foreign countries than this debates though.

I was expecting more of Bernie. If he cannot stand watching the full length of a comedy show, then he does not have the gut to lead a country.
Goddamn pinko commie softie will bring the apocalypse on us I tell ya hwat
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothes

I was hoping for some Alice Roosevelt support for the 10$, but it seems that's not going to happen.
My thoughts on the debate: Fiorina did very well. Rubio didn't get to talk often, but did very well when he talked. Kaisch did OK, but he's a moderate. Jeb did alright, but floundered when it was his time to shine. Trump did well on immigration, but floundered and lost most of his insult exchanges. Christie floundered. I don't understand how Carson gets most of his supporters, he seemed very weak to me except for when he gave his little bit on autism— makes me think he'd work better as an advisor or as a doctor then as a president. Rand Paul struggled, but he did better in the later half of it.
