Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Why are they talking about people's faces on money now?
For God's sake, it shouldn't be controversial at all to put a woman's face on our money. One, it's probably not that big a deal what's on our money, two, women have been just as influential as any man and that deserves recognition. Same applies to non white people.

I can't tell if that's sarcasm or you actually thinking that putting a black person on the money would be a genuine cause of mockery by anyone but bigots. I genuinely cannot.
And in any case, hardly anyone uses those dollar coins. Doesn't have quite the same "cache" as being on commonly used paper money that everyone carries.
And Frederick Douglas would look just as dignified as any of the men currently on our money.

Jackson was the only president to have actually paid off the debt, plus he was a war hero. I think that's why he's there actually.
But if he's that big a problem, swap him out for John Adams and call it a day.

Look upon my privilege ye mighty and despair.![]()
In fairness back in the gold standard days when government debt was treated almost like any other debt it did mean something, it doesn't now because the economy functions in a massively different way from back then.
Jefferson's only remembered for the DOI and maybe the Constitution. Also the Louisiana purchase.
Grants administration was worse to the indians, and he's still on the fifty.
But tbh we should probably get back to discussing the debate.

Look upon my privilege ye mighty and despair.

I think the idea is that the ten is going to be changed soon so they'll put a woman on it now and then move Hamilton to the twenty when it comes time to change that one.
