Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I'm not sure that considering homosexuality and sin but divorce okay is actually hypocritical. I mean she's still a horrible terrible person, but having different definitions of sin isn't inherently hypocritical.

Leviticus 19:34
I wouldn't make one. I probably wouldn't recognize them initially and haul them out. Even if I did, I would be better than them, that and they are all lawyers, the lawsuits their kin would file against me would be bankrupting. They can live on knowing they would have gone straight to meet there maker if it weren't for some Catholic boy saving them, and a very secular irreverent one at that. That is assuming my weak non swimmer ass could actually save anyone of course

I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.
You're right, making a Pizza is much wiser.
But I'm not being serious either way. Obviously you should save someone who's drowning, even if they're an ass.
Leviticus 19:34This is a case of Jerkass Has a Point. If Kim wants to be upright with Christ, then she must acknowledge that she was made one flesh with husband #1, and that being "saved" she is obliged to either return to him or remain celibate the rest of her days, for her current marriage is merely adultery, per the gospel.
Or we could all send her tracts to convert her to Pastafarianism.
So this stuff about Trump having relatively liberal economic views, which actually resonate with rank-and-file Americans, as opposed to the big money establishment . . .
How's that jibe with the narrative of the last seven years that the Republican primaries are dominated by the Tea Party, a bunch of hardcore minarchists who want to do away with almost all government spending or regulation, taking it much farther than the big money establishment thinks is wise?
The "true" Tea Party is largely an astroturf organization sponsored by the Koch brothers.

Not that I'm a fan of mandatory ID — if I want to walk to the pool without my wallet, it's nobody's business. But certainly you should get it automatically and for free upon reaching suitable age.

I am panamanian, we as a hispanic nation are offended by trump and the loons who agree with his mexicans are rapists spiel, and from what was rather obvious listening to your jon stewart and msnbc and others was that the GOP uses voting ID laws to prevent minority voting...but your lack of mandatory ID offends me even more.

And it is my business if you drown at the pool/suffer a slipping accident with head trauma and can't ID your corpse/ knocked out body .

If it makes you feel better, they had my location listed as Canada. Just one problem, I was living in Maryland, USA at the time.
I'm an American damn it, I hate hockey, I hate lumberjacks, Canadian Bacon isn't even bacon and the Canadian football league is a joke.

Look upon my privilege ye mighty and despair.Republicans don't want everyone to have access to ID. Instead they seem to be trying to make it harder and harder to get unless you are white and wealthy, and then they punish you for not being able to acquire it.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickPerfectly true assessment of their motives. But other than motorvoter I don't see alternatives that guarantee ID.
Motorvoter guarantees they won't get an ID since the whole point is to stop people from voting. It encourages making getting ID as hard as possible. Motorvoter involves closing DMV offices in poor areas and cutting the poor and minorities out of society so you can deport them easier if they're too brown or the wrong religion.
