Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Laughing at politics is a key sign that you are a beneficiary of some form of privilege.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"What if I laugh at everything
"Laugh or cry situation" is a sort of idiomatic expression in my language at least. It can be used to show such an extreme indifference that no reaction seems appropriate, or it is serious enough that taking it seriously would just make you sad so it might be better to just go with levity.
I thought the expression worked the same in english...?

It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothes@Garcon How come that stuff doesn't get into the news? I mean you'd think cross burnings would be big for ratings, especially now. Not that I don't believe you, you're confirming what one of my friends who has relatives in the south said, specifically he said they hang black people in effigy because they are pissed it isn't legal to hang actual black people. The only time I have ever heard of a lynching occurring in this country in my lifetime was that incident with some poor black teenager who was caught dating a white woman, and that was never proven, it could have been a lynching or a suicide do to all the community pressure he was facing.
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.Proxy and postal votes are the most common ones to be subject to fraud, such fraud is also totally unaffected by voting ID laws.
I've heard of multiple lynchings just from this thread.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranWestboro Baptist Church blames Kim Davis for the existence of gay marriage
.
...Wait, what?
"Yup. That tasted purple."...Wait, what?
The westboro baptist Church is a hate group, akin to a terrorist group. They want to prey on people's utmost fears. They see the inherent jingoism and patriotism in all of the U.S culture and they believe they can sow fear by telling people god hates them
It is not very effective, because they are so close minded
They see Kim Davis and they are much more familiar with her style of thinking, so they accuse her of the very thing she fears the most: promotiong homosexuality.
Remember they are like. Fear vampires. They feed off this shit. And if they were remotely intelligent, they would be pants shittingly good at it and fat.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesThey are the sort of vampires even stephanie meyer could write a Your Vampires Suck at them.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesThe WBC decried Davis for having multiple marriages, saying that it was an abomination before God.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"It's more like "That weird ranting drunken uncle at the meetings everyone just tries to ignore except our cousin Media keeps trying to gossip with us about his latest adventures in asshatery and we're totally sick of this shit oh god mom I told you I did not want to come to this place because of this"
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothes

I thought populism was an archaic term referring to what farmers wanted because they used to be the most populous profession.
Well I would like to see a country where everybody who could vote, would vote. It'd definitely change politicians' views of their country.
