Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Noticing that, I've started writing a story where the main character is a government agent/militarized police officer living in a mostly just society, and the villains are revolutionaries (albeit astroturfed into existence by Dirty Communists).

The Sheik was a book about a European woman abducted by a strapping Arab man who abused her and made her part of his harem. With the recent revelations about Bagdadi this has become horrifying in hindsight. Cracked also did an article about the mountains of literary porn Victorians consumed. Any way we are getting off topic. The long and short is my generation is composed of idiots, but so was everyone before it, and everyone that will come after it.

I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.A lot of young adult novels include some corrupt ruling force and the kids banding together to take it down.
Who doesn't like the thought of that? Besides the ruling force.
But the U.S. has been a constitutional democratic republic for centuries and I don't think that's going to change too soon...so the main way to influence the country is to just focus all your attention on somebody and hope that they'll fix everything.
Between anarchy and dictatorship...what could be better than imperfect democracy? ;p
You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would stay
Interesting read, but to put it bluntly I never felt I fit in with my generation, I'm not very good at social media and all millennia's are supposed to be social media obsessed. Still I will list some of our more positive qualities, namely that we,at least in the US and Europe, are probably the most tolerant generation in human history. Also about the article, it is reminding me why I took so long to switch to being an Independent, and why I will probably never identify as a Democrat. God the left can be so stupid.
Edit: Like literally this article nearly perfectly explains why I took so long to step outside the "right wing bubble."

True, sorry for being such an obnoxious idiot sometimes.
Edit: I suppose that's the problem with some people, they are very smart, and yet refuse to learn anything new, or allow anything in to challenge their preconceived notions. I suppose that's something us youngens have on some of our elders. By and large we are willing to admit we don't know everything, and that we can be wrong.

I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom. If you get to be really enlightened like me, then you realize you know so much that you actually know nothing, so you just go back to trying to sneak in a nap at work and yearning to return home so you can watch more pornography.
I am the best worst example. Don't actually do that.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothes
There's so much to learn even just in porn. Just yesterday I learned there's live action My Little Pony parody porn. Blew my fucking mind.

Oddly one of the less despicable things I have heard of him doing. Seriously how can any parent let someone, even one of their own children, get away with hurting another one of their children. I don't care how fundy you are, something inside of you has to say that's fucked up. Normally I'm all for tolerance for conservatives, and against Liberal fear mongering against some of them. But in this case I say arrest both Joshie and Ma and Pa Dugger for child abuse and throw the book at them, and if the book doesn't hit them than write a new one and throw it.
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.Lest we slip into our enemies' rhetorical traps, it is enough to say that she is hateful and homophobic. The "she beast" thing is gratuitous.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"

Hey at least my generation never had "The Shiek" god those Victorians were repressed.
