Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

EIN VOLK! EIN REICH! EIN BERNIE SANDERS!
The National Review has decided it no longer wants to be a serious publication.
Yeah, it was worse to read.

Schild und Schwert der ParteiWhile Sanders is very, very far from my favorite candidate, I find it absolutely hilarious to call him a Nazi.
Though really, if you compare someone to Hitler by putting their personal politics side by side, you're entirely missing the point.
If you want to compare someone to Hitler, you do so by analyzing their views on empathy and morality. If they say things like "I don't see why man should be less cruel than nature" or "It is not truth that matters, but victory", then it starts becoming fair to compare them to Hitler.
Leviticus 19:34Is there a politician that cannot be described as a nationalistic jingoistic bastard? Specially in the U.S, a nation that believes itself blessed because it deserves to be blessed as something so ingrained intheir cultural and national identity.
But really, I might be biased. I personally despise anything even resembling jingoism. The U.S is just a big example, not a unique one at all.

It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesPersonally, I like patriotism, even in other nations.
(IE, a person from England who clearly loves England).

Leviticus 19:34I tried reading that National Review article. Is this an Op-Ed or something? It's written in an incredibly informal way. I swear it's satire but from what I know of them that probably isn't the case.
edit: I still love how people can't seem to tell the different between Nazis, Communists, and Socialists.

You see. You can be a Commie and a Nazi. Commie-Nazis are real.

I don't think Judges should be letting people off easy. I realize this could lead to other problems which is why we need to work on making the punishments for crimes logical. For example let's stop giving jail time for non-violent drug offenses.
That could still lead to minorities always getting the maximum sentence while white people get a fraction of that.

Well you're a Mexican so you'd probably be treated as a hostile foreign entity.
Oh really when?
