Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Ugh, I was reminded again why I'm not a fan of Evangelicals. Had a minister (regular customer with his church down the street, PO box, etc.) come in to pick up his mail, and he mentioned that he was doing his "Mormon Outreach" at the Hill Cumorah pageant today.
Translation: "I'm going there to tell people why Mormonism is a filthy lie that will lead them to Hell if they don't repent their ways".

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Trump goes after McCain's war record, saying he "...is a war hero because he was captured."
The Old Man of Arizona still has plenty of support in his own state and elsewhere. If I recall, he even conducted a purge of Tea Party officials to solidify the Moderate's grip on the state. Is there an particular to antagonize McCain loyalists?
I mean, you know, besides being a loudmouth media darling?

Let me get this straight: Did a far-rightest republican just put down another far-rightest Republican? Because that's what it looks like. In any case, it's probably not a good idea to slam on someone from the only base that's likely to vote for you. (At least, it likely isn't for Trump. From my POV, it's a terrific idea!)
McCain is not a "far rightest" Republican. He's way over towards the moderate side of that scale.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"On Cruz's facebook, he said:
"John Mc Cain is an American hero. Although we have some policy disagreements, I'm proud to serve alongside him". I do believe he might have been responding to Trump's statement.
Leviticus 19:34Trump's comments can't help but remind me of this:
Lisa: What makes him a hero, Dad?
Homer: Well, he fell down the well and ... can't get out.
Lisa: How does that make him a hero?
Homer: Well, it's more than you did!
Not just of the right. There are plenty of Democrats who love Mc Cain too.
So Trump has been mocking Mc Cain's military record.
Exactly what service has Trump done?
"Yup. That tasted purple."Either way, he had a good chance of serving Vietnam, but lucked out. So he doesn't have any real jurisdiction to be calling Mc Cain out on anything here, really.

Appropriate, but possibly counter-productive. I mean, more people read entertainment news than political. So they might have just given him more publicity.
Then again, it's the Huffington Post. No one reading that would vote for Trump anyway.
