Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The national moon park idea is just as illegal as Newt Gingrich's moon base.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016The outer space treaty prohibits claiming an territory on the moon. It allows any nation to go to the moon, or set up bases on the moon, provided that those bases are used only for research. I believe that the treaty also protects any artifacts left on the moon, making this park illegal and redundant.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016If someone wants to do it bad enough, I'm sure they could end up putting a theme park on the moon. Probably under the guise of "educational something or other" and there happen to be rides and perhaps those theater things where you stand and they have the video playing all around you on the ceiling. And the proceeds go to running the research center.

Someone in the comments points out this data is from 2009, so it's hard to say how much is still accurate.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016I have my doubts that the statistic you cited reflects Americans getting skinnier.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Don't be obtuse. The demonym for a person from the United States is "American". The demonym for someone from Mexico is "Mexican". Like it or not.

Of those apparently bad degrees, the Bowling Industry Studies would at least, likely, be applicable to starting other types of small businesses with a similar application (like, say, a minigolf Funland or something). Winemaking is a growing niche in the country. Given NAFTA, Canadian Studies could be a lucrative field.
Although their down-talking of liberal arts degrees makes me rather bothered by that article overall (with my Bachelor's in International Relations and my running unemployment)
Senator Warren (D-MA) rips Senator Manchin (D-WV) on student loan proposal
That one panel seems to be part of "the any degree that isn't a business or engineering degree" is utterly useless. Nevermind that the school that offers the winemaking degree probably specializes in that and it clearly isn't something you can get at every school. There's colleges in rural areas where you can get classes in turkey sexing because rural areas that possibly raise turkeys and other birds are where that would be relevant. Surprise surprise, some schools offer different sorts of degrees from others, some of them fairly rare.
And I really wish people would stop paying attention to Trump. He's such a gasbag.

The human race as a whole? Nobody? How would you even go about establishing a territorial claim without a permanent settlement?
