Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Barkey, do you have to do stuff for us to assume that you didn't kill children in Iraq and don't beat minorities for kicks here at home? That shit about stereotypes cuts both ways. How about we don't assume unfounded shit about people because of their background, okay?
Share it so that people can get into this conversation, 'cause we're not the only ones who think like this.^
You're free to believe whatever you want to believe, though I highly doubt that even the most anti-mil folks out there think we burglarize houses on a regular basis.
The thing I resent is acting like Trayvon was some innocent kid. Zimmerman is stone guilty in my opinion, and being found as such for murder is what he deserves, but people are acting like Trayvon was some kind of angel. The majority of the time if it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck, it's a duck. Assumptions aren't always a bad thing.

Most of us aren't angels. But as you've noted, that doesn't mean we deserve to die.
Also, regarding assumptions not being a bad thing: do you think the assumptions Zimmerman brought into the encounter had any effect on his actions? Particularly if he made assumptions about Trayvon much like those you're making now?
Share it so that people can get into this conversation, 'cause we're not the only ones who think like this.So having a gun makes you look suspicious? Hmm...
Wasn't an angel =/= deserved to get shot.

Is that a non sequitur or is that actually a stereotype where you are?
hashtagsarestupidRand Paul Takes On ‘Amnesty’ Opponents: ‘Do They Want Us To Put Illegals In Concentration Camps?’
My guess is that no, amnesty opponents dont want concentration camps. They just think the USA would somehow improve if we took every single illegal, forced them out of their homes and lives at gunpoint, and threw them across the border.
nevermind that'd likely shatter entire communities, seperate citizen children from illegal parents, and cause all sorts of nasty economic effects from vacated jobs.

You = ignoring that Barkey specifically said that Trayvon didn't deserve to get shot. If you're going to argue with Barkey than try not to put words in his mouth.
Edit: I've gone and dug the exact quote up for you, post 57383 on page 2296.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranNo, I'm being serious, that's an actual look that is often correctly associated with criminal behavior where I live.
I'm maybe a few blocks away from Colonia, so there's a pretty significant deal
of gang activity
in my neighborhood. At least where I live, if you look like a gangbanger, you probably are one.
