Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Someone firebombed Wendy Davis's office.
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryThe republicans tried to count votes that weren't even cast. [1]

Oh, that firebombing WAS last year. My mistake.
Rumor is right now that the Livestream showed for sure that the bill was dead.
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryHow the fuck does that even work? My car doesn't have an internet connection, so unless they're trying to literally break into it I'm having trouble imagining that. That's the sort of extreme statement that requires more information, Sledgesaul, and I really shouldn't have to point that out.
@L-Mage: It appears to be dead for the moment. Also it turns out eighty fucking percent of Texans were against this fucking thing.

Can doesn't mean are — anyway, for a lot of the older ones they'd need access to them — if they can be hackednote .
Although I will add, equipment for hacking into a car's ECU
can be brought commercially — why do you think there are so many options for re-mapping car ECUs?

"I don't know how I do it. I'm like the Mr. Bean of sex." -DrunkscriblerianJune 26, 2013 — the coming of the Apocalypse! Fire and brimstone raining from the heavens! The seas boiling! Dogs and cats living together in sin! Mass hysteria!
Or maybe a few more homes with color coordinated upholstery.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"

This is fucking disgraceful.
The Republicans can talk all they want about "women's health", but de facto SB 5 is a statewide ban on abortion. The ridiculous standards that it imposes on abortion clinics is expected to force all but a handful of clinics to shut down, and in a state that is almost 270,000 square miles in area with 26 million residents, that's a big fucking deal.
