Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Cephalopod Lothario
Not the person who was asked, but of course you can be racist against the majority. And it's a problem. However, as the majority has more power, their racism carries more impact. That doesn't mean any racism is ok, but we should try to focus more resources on the most damaging forms of racism.
Basically what I was going to say.
The "Majority" has most of the media focusing on them. White Male Straight Cis. Their voices are the ones that get heard the most and carry the most weight. So when a minority discriminates against them, it carries little impact because for every one voice racist against white people there are many more supporting white people.
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryThe majority generally runs the institutions of the nation to a far more significant degree than minorities(unless there's some kind of caste system in place but no first world nation has that to my knowledge). This makes it far easier for racism against minorities to become institutionalized. I agree there is racism and sexism directed at white males but it's far less damaging than what other groups go through. It's still bad, just not as big of a concern at the moment.

That doesn't make any sense. Obama beat Mc Cain not Bush.

Given that Dubya's approval rating was in the high 20s-low 30s range during the 2008 election, Obama would have won if Bush had seeked a 3rd term. So basically term limits didn't matter.
